Issue 7 TRANSMISSION TIMES pssiglobal.com | 1-800-SAT-LINK | [email protected] Did You Know? Since PSSI News Group was established in 2017, we’ve covered quite a few major storms for CNN. In 2017, we were on hand to bring viewers live coverage of hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. In 2018, we helped the news about hurricanes Florence and Michael reach people nationwide. And this year, we were on-site in multiple locations in North Carolina and South Carolina to cover Hurricane Dorian. When disasters strike, seamless news coverage is more important than ever — and we are committed to helping ensure viewers get the information they need. It’s Our Favorite Season Forget about winter, spring, summer and fall. Here at PSSI Global Services, our favorite season is football. And it’s a good thing, too — once again, we have a full schedule of college games from coast to coast. This year, we’re excited to be covering … • Every SEC on CBS game • All Army and Navy home games on CBS Sports Network • Conference USA and Mountain West Conference games on CBS Sports Network • Big 10, Big 12, and Pac-12 football across the Fox networks, including a weekly 4K transmission for Fox Sports 1 • At-home transmissions via satellite and fiber for various games on the ESPN networks • Dozens of bowl games and conference championships, including the College Football Playoff In addition to a full lineup of college games, we’re also looking forward to helping out at numerous high school games on behalf of our friends at PA Sportsfever, Rush Media, ESPN and others. -

Fareed Zakaria Commencement Address Thank You So Much
Fareed Zakaria Commencement address Thank you so much President Faust, Fellows of the Corporation, Overseers, Ladies and Gentlemen, and graduates. To the graduates in particular, I have to tell you, you're way ahead of me already. I never made it to my commencement, either from College or graduate school. I went to college south of here, in a small town called New Haven, Connecticut, and well, I celebrated a bit the night before the ceremony. The honest truth is, I slept through much of my Commencement. Then, after I had finally made in to Harvard for graduate school, I took a job before I had finished my Ph. D. and wrote the final chapters while working in New York. I couldn’t get away from work for Commencement, and I got my degree in the mail. So, 19 years later, it is a great honor to receive, in person, a Harvard degree. Harvard was, for me, a revelation. Contrary to the conventional wisdom on this campus, it is possible to receive a fine education at Yale, and I did. But Harvard’s great graduate programs have an ambition, energy, and range that, for me, made it a dazzling, electric experience. Getting a Ph. D. involves many hours of grueling work but, if you do it right, also many hours of goofing off with friends, acquiring new hobbies and interests, and working your way through the great resources here – from the libraries to cafes. I fully availed myself of these opportunities and the time spent not working (in a formal sense) was as valuable as the hours in seminar rooms. -

Political News Election
HTTP://WWW.UPSCPORTAL.COM POLITICAL NEWS ELECTION COMMISSION AT 60 After overseeing 15 general elections to the Lok Sabha, the Election Commission of India, in its diamond jubilee year, can with justifiable pride claim to have nursed and st rengthened the electoral processes of a nascent democracy. The successes have not been consiste nt or uniform, but over the last six decades the ECI managed to make the worlds largest democratic p rocess freer and fairer. One of the instruments of this success is surely the Model Code of C onduct. D esigned to offer a level playing field to all political parties, it has been used to neu tralise many of the inherent advantages of a ruling party in an election. Although the model code wa s originally based on political consensus and does not still enjoy statutory sanction, it served as a handy tool for placing curbs on the abuse of the official machinery for campaigning. While ther e have been complaints of excess in the sometimes mindless application of the model code, th e benefits have generally outweighed the costs. After the Election Commission was made a three-member body, its functioning beca me more institutionalised and more transparent with little room for the caprices of an o verbearing personality. The diamond jubilee is also an occasion for the ECI to look at the challenges ah ead, especially those relating to criminalisation of politics and use of money power in elections. Neither of these issues is new. What is clear is that the efforts of the Commission to t ackle them have generally lacked conviction and have not yielded any significant results. -

Palestine 2010: Time for Plan B
[email protected] www.al-shabaka.org al-shabaka policy brief Palestine 2010: Time for Plan B By Mouin Rabbani June 2010 Overview The likelihood of current diplomatic initiatives resulting in a meaningful two-state settlement is for all intents and purposes non-existent, argues Al-Shabaka Policy Advisor Mouin Rabbani, due to Israel’s determination to permanently control East Jerusalem and large swaths of the West Bank, and the lack of political will in the U.S. and Europe to reverse Israel’s expansionist momentum. He foresees an unwelcome future of further ghettoization and fragmentation of Palestinians in the occupied territories and within Israel, greater marginalization and atomization of the Diaspora, and an increasingly regionalized and existential conflict in which the initiative will lie with non-state actors operating beyond the confines of Israel/Palestine. Thus, rather than relying on continued diplomacy and alternative peace scenarios in the forlorn hope that the dominant American-Israeli framework will be modified, advocates of Palestinian self-determination should focus their efforts on arresting and where possible reversing realities on the ground, and undertake global campaigns to challenge Israeli impunity and promote the concept of Israeli accountability for its actions toward the Palestinian people. This, Rabbani concludes, presents the only realistic option for preserving Palestinian rights and, perhaps in the longer run, establishing meaningful diplomatic options. Why peace talks can’t succeed Almost 18 months into his mission United States Special Envoy, George Mitchell is once again shuttling between Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, this time purportedly with a four-month deadline to finally secure “progress”. -
Fresh Dressed
PRESENTS FRESH DRESSED A CNN FILMS PRODUCTION WORLD PREMIERE – DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE Running Time: 82 Minutes Sales Contact: Dogwoof Ana Vicente – Head of Theatrical Sales Tel: 02072536244 [email protected] 1 SYNOPSIS With funky, fat-laced Adidas, Kangol hats, and Cazal shades, a totally original look was born— Fresh—and it came from the black and brown side of town where another cultural force was revving up in the streets to take the world by storm. Hip-hop, and its aspirational relationship to fashion, would become such a force on the market that Tommy Hilfiger, in an effort to associate their brand with the cultural swell, would drive through the streets and hand out free clothing to kids on the corner. Fresh Dressed is a fascinating, fun-to-watch chronicle of hip-hop, urban fashion, and the hustle that brought oversized pants and graffiti-drenched jackets from Orchard Street to high fashion's catwalks and Middle America shopping malls. Reaching deep to Southern plantation culture, the Black church, and Little Richard, director Sacha Jenkins' music-drenched history draws from a rich mix of archival materials and in-depth interviews with rappers, designers, and other industry insiders, such as Pharrell Williams, Damon Dash, Karl Kani, Kanye West, Nasir Jones, and André Leon Talley. The result is a passionate telling of how the reach for freedom of expression and a better life by a culture that refused to be squashed, would, through sheer originality and swagger, take over the mainstream. 2 ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS SACHA JENKINS – Director Sacha Jenkins, a native New Yorker, published his first magazine—Graphic Scenes & X-Plicit Language (a ‘zine about the graffiti subculture)—at age 17.
