The Bears, by winning, reached the coveted 30-win plateau for the season, upping their record to 30-11. At one juncture in early April, Bear batters were virtually unstoppable. In a double-header sweep of Indiana State, they scored 50 runs and hit 14 homers, winning 27-6 and 23-6. In the opening game, they tied a school record with 10 home runs (by nine different Bears). Senior Micah Holst and junior Brian Fuess each hit grand slam homers in the nightcap. The Bears led the conference much of the way before drop ping three of four games at Creighton in mid-April. At Creighton, their bats fell silent for the first time this year. They scored only 20 runs in the four-game set as they fell from No. 1 in the league to No. 3. Last year, they finished third in the league tourney and missed an NCAA appearance for the first time in four years. In eight MVC campaigns, the Bears have been a solid first division factor. They have finished second three times, third three times and fourth twice. This marks their ninth year in MVC competition. BT Safe!
