In a sneak peek airing Saturday, January 5 at 10/9c, the HGTV series follows different newlyweds on their journey to finding and purchasing their first shared home. A significant milestone for any couple, this show not only offers insight into what a couple is looking for in a home, but it also provides an inside look at the dynamics of their relationship as they begin to lay the foundation for a “nest” of their own. For years, viewers have lived vicariously through the brides featured in our signature wedding series SAY YES TO THE DRESS, and now with SAY YES TO THE NEST, they can explore post-nuptial bliss with newlyweds who are preparing to plant roots and spend ‘forever’ together.” Kicking off the fun on Saturday, January 5 at 8/7c, SAY YES TO THE DRESS returns to Kleinfeld Bridal, which recently wrapped one of its biggest bridal seasons to date, and the team is excited to welcome back Randy Fenoli on the heels of a successful debut of his eponymous bridal collection. This season is full of surprises, ranging from a bride looking for a “dark fairy” dress, to a bride who is hopeful that she will walk down the aisle with her fiancé after he was proclaimed paralyzed from an injury; and some of the celebrity brides include Prince’s former bass player Nik West, singer and actress Sabrina Bryan and "bionic model" Rebekah Marine. In the premiere episode, Randy and the consultants are immediately put to the test by two unique brides who require their undivided attention. The Kleinfeld team has their hands full with social media mogul Sydel Curry, the sister of star NBA player Stephen Curry, who arrives in tow with her mother Sonya, niece Riley and sister-in-law, celebrity chef and television personality Ayesha Curry. Not only do they need to find a gorgeous gown that Sydel loves, but they also need to get the final stamp of approval from someone a little harder to impress - Sydel’s mom. Viewers will also witness the return of Cami Li – the feisty bride who sent mothers worldwide into a state of panic last season when she was adamant about getting a black wedding dress – when she walks into Kleinfeld with her mother for her final dress fitting, before saying ‘I Do,” to her now husband Brent. The eclectic bride gives her mom another scare when she admits that her heart is still set on the all-black dress! Last minute arguments on rehearsal day will have fans on the edge of their seats, but the emotional rollercoaster will eventually give way to a magical, Alice in Wonderland themed wedding. We took great pleasure in watching the brides-to-be try on, reject and select their dream dresses in the sparkly showroom of Kleinfeld, in the heart of Manhattan. We critiqued every ensemble, mar- veled at every price point, and added our own snarky commentary to that of the friends and fami- ly who came along to assist the soon-to-be-wed. We scrutinized everything from the tiaras to the toe clips and the whole lot in between. We had our favorite designers, and we knew the Kleinfeld consultants by name. The depictions of marriage included individuals adopting some sort of role-performance, often gender specific, and reiterated the conflict for power in marriage between the two parties.     THE BRIDE IN AMERICAN MEDIA: A FEMINIST MEDIA STUDIES AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS, 1831-2012 by EMILIA NOELLE BAK (Under the Direction of Janice Hume) ABSTRACT This dissertation examined the figure of the bride in American media. Today, the bride is a ubiquitous figure. She graces the covers of magazines, websites are devoted to her, and multiple television series star her. This study aimed to understand the American bride contemporarily and historically by examining magazine media from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as well as today’s reality television programming. Pulling from feminist media studies and critical cultural studies and proceeding from the standpoint that representations matter, portrayals of the bride were analyzed in terms of gender, class and race for ways in which these representations affirmed and/or resisted the dominant ideology. The bride was examined in media targeted at women to understand how media meant for women talked about the bride, a uniquely female figure. The nineteenth-century women’s magazine Godey’s Lady’s Book, the twentieth-century women’s magazine Ladies’ Home Journal and today’s most notorious reality bride show, Bridezillas, were all examined.     2015-09-15 11:19 CEST Höjdpunkter i oktober på TLC Nyheter i oktober I oktober möter vi Nancy, Haleigh, Colleen och Lindsay i My Giant Life som alla är över 2 meter långa och berättar om hur det känns att ses som ovanlig. I Dare to wear gör programledaren Tai Beauchamp om gör-om-mig- programmet när två deltagare får byta stil med varandra för att få ett nytt perspektiv. My Giant Life Premiär torsdag 15 oktober 22.00 I My Giant Life träffar vi kvinnorna vars ståtliga uppenbarelser får alla att vända på huvudet. De är alla över 2 meter långa och i den här serien får vi följa dem när de tacklar vardagens små bekymmer och livets stora frågor. Nancy är tonåring och ett par huvuden längre än sina klasskamrater – hon nyttjar sin längd väl som basketspelare och har stort stöd från familjen som alla är över 2 meter. Haleigh är 23 och professionell volleybollspelare som dessutom hunnit med en magisterexamen. Nu ska hon gifta sig med Bryan som är nio år äldre och av helt ordinär längd. Colleen, eller Coco, har också varit volleybollproffs och letar efter kärleken. Hon flyttar till San Diego och jobbar med att anpassa det nya hemmet till sig själv. Lindsay har ägnat sig åt wrestling och finns med i Guinness rekordbok som längsta huvudrollsinnehavare. Hennes ståtliga längd kommer från pappan, som hon inte träffat sedan hon var 11. Nu vill hon försöka hitta fadern och få svar på frågan varför han lämnade familjen.
