The Porsche Type List
The Porsche Type List When Professor Ferdinand Porsche started his business, the company established a numeric record of projects known as the Type List. As has been reported many times in the past, the list began with Type 7 so that Wanderer-Werke AG did not realize they were the company’s first customer. Of course, as a result, Porsche’s famous car, the 356 as defined on the Type List, was actually Porsche’s 350th design project. In reviewing the Porsche Type List enclosed on this website, you might notice several interesting aspects. First, although there is a strong chronological alignment of Type numbers, it is certainly not perfect. No official explanation exists as to why this occurs. It is possible that Type numbers were originally treated only as an informal configuration and data management tool and today’s rigorous examination of Porsche history is but an aberration of 20/20 hindsight. Secondly, you might also notice that there were variations on Type List numbers that were probably made rather spontaneously. For example, consider the Type 60 with its many “K” variations to designate different body styles. Also consider how the Type 356 was initially a tube frame chassis then changed to a sheet metal chassis with the annotation 356/2 but the /2 later reused to describe different body/engine offerings. Then there were the variants on the 356 annotated as 356 SL, 356A, 356B, and 356C designations and in parallel there were the 356 T1 through 356 T7 designations. Not to mention, of course, the trademark infringement threat that caused the Type 901 to be externally re-designated as the 911. -

Porsche 919 Hybrid Return to top-level sport Porsche is making its comeback to the top-level motorsport arena: with the new 919 Hybrid the sports car brand is sending a platform for pioneering technology to the top category of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the undisputed seasonal highlight of the 24-hour Le Mans race. Porsche's reputation precedes it at this venue: with 16 overall victories under its belt, the brand holds the record for this, the most famous endurance race in the world. In 2014 Porsche is returning to the top-level class endurance race after a 16-year absence - namely Le Mans Prototypes (LMP1). Matthias Müller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG explains: "The new and revolutionary efficiency regulations for this class were what prompted us to take this step. In 2014 it is not going to be the fastest contender who is going to win the sports car world championship and Le Mans, but the car that gets furthest with the defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that the automotive industry has to face. The 919 Hybrid is like a high speed research laboratory and the most complex racing car Porsche has ever built." The new WEC regulations for the LMP1 racing car gives engineers an unusual amount of leeway and demands pioneering technology, such as hybridisation, downsizing engines and consistent lightweight construction. newsroom Motorsports Nov 19, 2019 Twelve candidates have one goal: New Porsche Junior in the Supercup Twelve racing drivers took part in a selection programme at the Portuguese racetrack in Portimão to become the new Porsche Junior. The driver chosen by Porsche will receive a comprehensive sponsorship package that includes 225,000 euros for a season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The talented youngsters nominated to participate were Vitor Baptista (Brazil), Diego Bertonelli (Italy), Hugo Chevalier (France), Roman De Angelis (Canada), George Gamble (Great Britain), Ayhancan Güven (Turkey), Robin Hansson (Sweden), Jordan Love (Australia), Daniel Lu (China), Dylan Pereira (Luxemburg), Uky Sasahara (Japan) and Max van Splunteren (Netherlands). Over three days, the sponsorship candidates had the chance to demonstrate their prowess. During a simulated racing weekend at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, which included a practice, qualifying and race, they not only had to display their driving skills, but also aspects such as technical understanding, interaction with the engineers, dealing with the media and physical fitness. The drivers, who were selected for their outstanding performances in their respective Porsche national one-make cups, exhibited a high driving standard in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Press Release 6 March 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, 2020 season Porsche Juniors and their teams are ready for the new Supercup season Stuttgart. The two Porsche Juniors Jaxon Evans (New Zealand) and Ayhancan Güven (Turkey) have found their teams for the upcoming Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season. Evans competes for Lechner Racing (Austria), with Güven driving for the French squad Martinet by Alméras. For both young drivers, this marks their second season in the international one-make cup, which is contested as support to European Formula 1 events. The youngsters receive funding to the value of 225,000 Euros and mentoring from the former Porsche works driver Sascha Maassen as well as media seminars, mental coaching and sports medicine support. “Anyone who performs well in the top-class field of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is well prepared for a career as a professional race driver. Many top international tal- ents took the decisive career step in the Supercup and then went on to become works drivers. We’re pleased that the two ambitious racers Jaxon Evans and Ayhan- can Güven joined our strong grid line-up again this year,” says Oliver Schwab, pro- ject manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The season kicks off with the first round of the European Formula 1 season at the Circuit Zandvoort (1-3 March). Jaxon Evans joined the Porsche Motorsport Junior Programme at the beginning of last year. This season, the 23-year-old will race under the supervision of the Austrian team Lechner Racing. The squad from Faistenau won the team championship title for the last six years and also produced the overall winner for the last four years. -

Porsche’s one-make cups are well represented by a packed grid at Le Mans. As part of the support programme of the legendary 24-hour race, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and the Porsche Carrera Cup France deploy 53 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on the racetrack. Hollywood star Michael Fassbender contests the race as a prominent guest driver and gains valuable experience for his personal “Road to Le Mans” project. The German-Irish actor is eager to contest next year’s classic in a Porsche 911 RSR. Porsche AG also fields a second VIP vehicle helmed by Max van Splunteren (Netherlands) – as a reward for the rookie title winner’s strong performance in the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The unwavering appeal of Porsche’s one-make cups lies in the principle of equal opportunities: Identical vehicles, control tyres and restricted set-up options put the drivers’ performance in the foreground. In the past, many drivers from the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) had taken this path on their way to professional motor racing. In 2011, Kévin Estre won the French Carrera Cup before going on to claim the title in the German equivalent two years later. The Frenchman has been a member of Porsche’s factory driver squad since 2016. Estre won the GTE-Pro class at the 2018 Le Mans endurance classic. A year later, the 31-year-old was crowned world champion of the WEC there.
