While the programmes prepare students to be professionally competent, the FCS enables students to register in courses of their choice and decide their own pace of learning within the broad framework of academic courses and credit requirements. They can register for Page 7 of 25

courses according to their interests and academic capability. FCS also allows students to develop their individualized academic plan in consultation with the Faculty Advisers (Mentors). The Mentors help students in identifying the courses based on Programme requirements, course pre-requisites, student’s abilities and his/her interest in various academic disciplines. Quality, Flexibility, and Student’s success are the underlying imperatives of the FCS initiative. Slow learners also have an opportunity to sustain their academic progress through this approach as most of the important courses are made available to them during the Fall and Winter semesters.

GDGU has introduced Inter – Disciplinary Projects in every semester to all the students irrespective of their schools/ programmes in order to prepare them in a better way to face the real world problems and demands. The inter- disciplinary projects aim at developing the students’ skill sets like critical thinking, communication, soft skills, team work, research etc. It aims to develop a student’s knowledge of and appreciation of the (i) interdisciplinary nature of knowledge and learning (ii) importance and value of integrating knowledge and perspectives from multiple disciplines as a means to evaluating and understanding complex topics, problems, issues, phenomena, and events and (iii) competencies learned during the educational process and to apply these competencies in a real-world application. Students are given an option to choose the project of their choice from the list of projects offered. All the projects are inter – disciplinary in nature and hence essentially include participation from different programmes.

At GDGU, the degree requirements are specified in the form of minimum qualifying credits that a student must earn to receive a degree. For example, all engineering programs require students Page 8 of 25

to successfully complete 190 credits. One credit is earned by attending 10-12 hours of lecture/ tutorial classes or 20-24 hours of practical classes in a semester in addition to passing one end-semester examination.
