Published Bi-Monthly for Danny Herman Trucking, Inc. November/December 2017 Volume 15, Issue 6 Your G.O.A.L. for 2018 1 A Word From Our President WELCOME

Hello to all! I hope this newsletter finds all of you doing well. I will start off by wishing all of you a Happy New Year. I hope all of you and your families had a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope all of you were able to spend some time with your family and friends, get some needed rest, and recharge for the New Year. CONTENTS Speaking of the New Year, it has been a good start as it NEWSLETTER pertains to freight volume and miles. We saw business pick up and take off much faster this year than we have in years past. From the looks of it January, overall, should 1 A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT be strong. We anticipate all of 2018 to be a strong year. Joe Herman, President of DHT With the ELD mandate going into effect, the new tax 2 OPERATIONS - SALES reform being signed into law, and the overall economy continuing to strengthen, 2018 has all of the ingredients for a good year. Weigh Less in 2018 The Sale View for 2018 We held our annual driver safety meetings on January 2nd and 3rd in El Paso. It was good to see all of you. I hadn’t seen some of you since last year, and with others it 3 SAFETY was the first time I had the opportunity to meet you. We covered a lot of information in the four hours of each meeting and I hope all of you got as much out of it as I did. For Your G.O.A.L. for 2018 those that were not able to attend, the meetings were recorded and will be available on DHT-U. 4 MAINTENANCE There were a couple of items that were discussed that I want to put some emphasis on. Good Things to Happen in 2018 The first one is “Scale Tickets”. Several people in attendance raised the issue that when they T-Call with some of our other drivers, those drivers have failed to weigh the load 5 PASSING ALONG TESTIMONIES that they are handing off to them. Going forward when you pick up a load that is more than 25,000 lbs. (on the bills) it is your responsibility to weigh the load at CAT Scales or a Certified Scale to ensure that your weight is legal on the gross as well as your axle 8 MARKETPLACE CHAPLAINS weights. This is to be done at the nearest set of scales to where the load was loaded or Balancing Work and Family picked up. If the weight is not legal, we can then take it back to the shipper and have it While Being Absent reworked to insure that it is legal. In the event you T-Call with another driver, and you do not have a legal weight ticket prior to the T-Call or swap, that driver will not switch loads until you attain a legal weight receipt. This has been our policy all along and it is just a 9 LEGAL SHIELD common courtesy to your fellow driver. It appears some drivers have not been following it this policy, but from now one, you must. 11 DRIVERS OF THE MONTH On a similar subject, as the weight ticket is the issue of how trailers are dropped at other locations, whether that be a customer or one at our terminals or drop locations, we are 12 DRIVERS OF THE YEAR seeing far too many trailers being dropped with defects like a flat or blown tire, lights that are out, or other damages. Going forward all drivers are instructed to report any 14 NEW HIRES defect to maintenance when picking up a trailer. We will then do a movement on the trailer to determine who the preceding driver was, and if it is determined that it was a defect that should have been reported by the previous driver and was not, disciplinary 15 ANNIVERSARIES action may be taken. Both of these items are elementary and shouldn’t even have to be mentioned, but it is upsetting to the driver that goes to pick up a trailer with damage that could have been prevented by the previous driver by doing a proper post trip inspection and reporting the defect. The majority of you do a great job at this, but it appears that a few are not. I know that we are all better than this, now let’s show it!!

During the past few weeks we have been experiencing some extremely cold temperatures across the country. Please insure that you put fuel additive in when fueling and before heading into cold weather. Maintenance has been sending out Qualcomm Messages on this, but please keep an eye out on the weather for the areas you are traveling and be sure to add fuel additive before getting into cold weather. Fuel additive is not effective if you wait to put it in when you get into the cold weather, you must plan ahead. If you have any questions on whether or not to add fuel additive please feel free to contact

Hello all DHT Drivers, I NEW DRUG TESTING RULES hope this newsletter finds you and your families On January 1, the FMCSA has expanded the current well. We have made it drug testing panel. Expanded Opioids will be added, through the holidays, I mandating the testing of Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, hope you all got to spend Hydrocodone and Hydromorphone. We shared a lot of good If the employee has a valid prescription for medication information with the drivers that attended. We will into small sections and putting it on the DHT-U for the want to confirm the medical practitioner’s knowledge rest of you to watch. That should be coming out soon of the employee’s essential job functions (Commercial and I will send out a fleet message to notify all of you ), and that there is no risk associated with when it is available. the performance of the functions while taking this medication. G.O.A.L GET OUT AND LOOK Thank you and please drive safely. Get Out and Look in 2018! In 2017, we had our share of preventable accidents, mostly backing. These were either at the customers Steve E Frantz, VP of Safety dock and/or at a truck stop. As a matter of fact, half of the truck stop accidents we had were preventable. 50% is not a good number. What that amounts to is being in a hurry and not paying attention. We also experienced more blind side backing accidents in 2017. Please do not blind side back unless it is absolutely necessary. If you do have to blind side back, get someone to keep a lookout for you or you will need to stop several times to Get Out and Look. We cannot continue to have these needless accidents. It only takes one minute to get out and look verses a lot more time to complete an accident report, pictures, police report and dealing with an angry driver because you delayed him with a damaged truck. So, do the right thing, slow down, pay more attention to your surroundings and get help or get out and look before backing.

DANNY HERMAN TRUCKING, INC. | November/December 2017 Maintenance 4 Good Things to Happen in 2018

Hello everyone, Happy New year! It was a pleasure seeing everyone in El Paso the first week of 2018. We had a great meeting Tuesday and Wednesday. We had a good turn out and not only did we have the opportunity to share and teach, we also learned a lot from the drivers who attended.

Now that we are in 2018, I am excited about the year to come. It looks promising and we have everything in place to make good things happen. The Maintenance Department is ready and willing to serve the company and the drivers’ needs to run record miles in 2018!

We always have an open door so whatever you need, please don’t hesitate to ask. We will continue to work on getting the PMs down to a science and keep all the equipment in great shape. I will repeat myself All because a baby here again when I say, during cold weather keep you fuel treated and came to save the do your inspections. world. . . Be safe and stay warm, we have a couple of months left in winter. God there is an empty tomb bless each of you.

A Message from the other “Danny Herman” 10/03/2017

Little background first. My dad Rudy died 18 years ago today in Chicago. While I was posting this info on FB this morning, I said a little prayer saying that I missed him, and I asked him to send us a sign that he was still looking over us. My wife and I were driving back to Sacramento CA from Roseville, CA. Suddenly in the right lane next to us I saw the bold letters, DANNY HERMAN across the back of your truck, that is actually the name on my birth certificate. I have never seen one of your trucks before. And the word, “FAITH” was also on the back. In the words of Gary Cooper (Sergeant York) “the lord sure do work in mysterious ways.” Daniel Herman

He asked for a picture of the Word faith on our truck, and we sent him this one….

Look what his wife did for him for Christmas:

Hey it’s Tuesday morning and we stopped at bakers ribs in caddy mills Texas and in conversation asked the employee if Danny Herman’s trucks ever stopped there. She said yes and said those drivers are so nice and always so polite and they always thanked God for their food before they ate. We told them we are always so happy to see their trucks on the road and how they are always such good drivers. Saw some trucks this morning some going east and some going west. Made our day

I wanted to post on your wall but I don’t see that open available. But I just wanted to tell you how impressive and amazing I think this is. I applaud your company for the message on the back of your truck ‘TRUST Isaiah 40:31’. Thank you. I needed this messaged when I pulled behind your semi on the on ramp. 7 Passing Along Testimonies

Wow, this makes it even more meaningful. It truly is great to be a family of God, we can be connected if only through Scripture on Trucks, unexpected emails and prayer!!! My husband drove for Safeway here is Arizona, so I have a special heart for Truck Drivers. He is now driving for God and I am sure he would smile if he could have seen your trucks. I leave this for you and your company. Bob would read this to our family every Christmas so what a wonderful timing of all of this — Okay God’s timing!!! Numbers 6: 24-27 May the Lord Bless You May the Lord make HIs Face Shine upon You and be Gracious to You May the Lord Lift up His Countenance Upon You, and Give You Peace May the Lord Send His Angels before You to Prepare your Way Because we are numbered among the righteousness and the Lord Loves You and His Peace and Grace will Rest Upon you In the Precious Name Above All Names, I Pray and Ask it. Thank you for your prayers for my mom Sherry and her husband Stan. Thank you for your blessings, Thank you for your ministry.

12/29/17 From Sarah Brody:

I wanted to share how encouraged I felt this morning seeing one of your trucks with Isaiah 40:31 on the back up here in snowy West Michigan. I am so grateful you are emboldened by the Holy Spirit and give glory to God. West Michigan is a fairly safe place for the faithful to live and speak Truth, but even here, it is becoming increasingly rare for companies and individuals to boldly proclaim God’s Word. So thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your trucks on the roads up here and feel encouraged to go forth more boldly myself, sharing God’s Word and the hope of salvation. In Christ alone, Sarah Brody

9 Legal Shield

Our Focus is on Drivers - the Most Important Job in America!

Without CDL drivers, everything would come to a standstill. Thank you for your hard work on our behalf, keeping America great! Why does every driver need the protection of LegalShield? An over the road commercial driver can spend 70 hours and 3000 miles each week driving from one end of the country to the other. It is difficult to know every law or regulation in the US and/or every State, County or Municipality.

All Commercial Drivers, whether they are Company Drivers or Owner Operators need proper representation from an experienced lawyer. Per Section 383.51 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA):

• If a driver receives 2 serious violations in a 3-year period, his/her license will be suspended for 60 days • If the driver receives a 3rd serious violation in that 3 year period their Commercial Drivers License will be suspended for an additional 120 days. • All violations in a personal vehicle also count against a Commercial Driver!

LegalShield represents the drivers in an effort to keep drivers on the road and earning a living. The law firm that represents all LegalShield commercial drivers is: Riggs Abney Tulsa, OK 74119-1010

"We (Riggs Abney) have represented clients in the transportation industry ranging from large trucking companies to individual operators. Our lawyers have considerable experience in a wide variety of transportation matters, including licensing, safety compliance with United States Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration regulations, intrastate regulatory compliance, commercial drivers license citations, and leasing."

Remember: When you get a traffic ticket, never, never plead guilty. You can sign that you are receiving the ticket - but do not plead guilty! If you are being bullied into signing guilty, just don't do it. Don't take a chance with your livelihood. Let your attorneys help you - but they cannot help you if you plead guilty. Don't intentionally break the law. There are enough laws that you are going to get citations sometimes when you are certain that you are legal - but even if you ARE guilty, do not sign guilty. Your LegalShield attorneys can sometimes work wonders. One Danny Herman Driver got off with only a small gift to charity. No points. No records. Another driver called to report that he had three tickets thrown out of court by three different LegalShield assigned attorneys! Drive carefully - but when you do make a mistake, let your attorney handle it for you!

Remember: You pay nothing up front to get enrolled. Coverage starts 11 days after enrollment. Your membership is paid for by a simple weekly payroll deduction of only $6.91. Your spouse or significant other is also covered - at no extra cost. Please call us with any questions! We are here to serve and to help.

IF you get a citation, call Riggs/Abney directly at 1-800-634-2391. Or you can have the "LegalShield" app in your phone - that puts the law firm in the palm of your hand. You can also lock my number into your phone - Joel, Legal Help - 386-986-6859, and call me and I will do a 3-way call into the firm with you. It’s that simple!
