Glacier’s Edge Backpack Camporee

LAST TIME at April 24-26, 2015 WOODMAN Woodman Center for Camping and Education, Richland Center CENTER! Come experience HIGH ADVENTURE in the fullest

Fill the valley with scouts from the Glacier Edge Council where the Woodman Center will host the 7th annual Glacier’s Edge Council-wide Backpack Camporee. This camporee will give scouts/scouters a chance to learn basic to advanced backpacking skills (water filtration, light weight stove usage and backpack food demonstration), basic to ultra- light equipment demonstrations, Leave No Trace camping, Wilderness First aid and Geocaching. The “Boulders” climbing wall will be there again this year! There plenty of opportunity to have fun and it is encouraged to share your troop’s/crew’s adventures with other scouts/scouters.

WE WILL HAVE ONLINE REGISTRATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRESELECT SOME OF THE SATURDAY SESSIONS YOUR PATROL WILL PARTICIPANT IN AN OUTPOST PROGRAM FEATURING THE BACKPACKING MERIT BADGE WILL BE OFFERED!

The Backpack Camporee is designed for Boy Troops and Venture Crews, please no packs.

Your backpacking experience will include having your troop/crew set-up camp on Friday night and pack up/move to a different site on Saturday (this replicates many high adventure backpacking outing situations). There will be an option for less experienced backpackers to set up one site for the entire weekend. Camp sites will have GPS coordinates, so if you have GPS units, feel free to bring them. A very limited supply of GPS units will be available for use.

Each unit is responsible for their own food. Bear bag policy for Troop/Crew food/smellables will be mandatory!

Arbor Day activities, such as tree planting, will be combined with different service projects to be done around the Woodman Center. For the service projects, we suggest that you bring gloves. If a scout or unit is working on their 50 Miler Award, the service work may count towards it. It is recommended that each unit spends some time over the weekend working on a service project: this helps our Council camp and supports good scout spirit. Come plant a tree!
