Science in Year 2: Collaboration and Building Bridges!

Year 2 were tasked with the challenge of building bridges from paper this week as part of their science work on materials and their suitability. With a choice of resources their bridges needed to meet certain criteria, including holding and transporting a toy car for fi fty centimetres. On refl ection they were able to explain that the most successful groups were those that communicated, listened to each others ideas, where everyone joined in and where they planned carefully before they started!

We have several children who have lost items of games and sports kit. It is all named so please can we ask parents to check their child’s kit bags and return any kit that might belong to someone else to the school offi ce.

Year 3 and 4 will be joining together on MONDAY 5th FEBRUARY for a fun-packed historical adventure to Butser Ancient Farm. The children will take part in various historical activities; such as jewellery making, whittling, chalk carving and Roman maths. We trust the trip will enable children to gain an increased understanding of the chronology from the Stone Age through to the Romans; experiencing fi rst-hand what the homes and life experiences of the people through these ages would have been like.

Most importantly please: Children should come to school wearing warm home clothes plus coats, hats and gloves. Please ensure the children wear welly boots, and if they have them, all-in-one waterproofs too. We will be outside for the whole day-please dress warmly!

A sandwich lunch will be provided by the school. We will be back at school in time for the end of the school day, unless traffi c problems arise. The cost will be £13 per child and this will be added to your end of term bill, unless you’d prefer to settle with the bursar directly.

Many thanks, Mrs Thompson and Mrs Rayner

‘Come and join us for FitClub every Tuesday morning between 8.20am - 9.00am in the Acorn Theatre. Cardio, core and strength workouts for all levels. This friendly, fun session is free of charge, just drop in after drop off! It’s no problem what time, just join in when you get here! By 9am you’ll be feeling great and set for the day.

All you need is your trainers and perhaps a bottle of water. Be sure to park in the fi eld carpark so we keep the playground parking clear.

Hope to see you there!’ Lucy Shrimpto

A big welcome to Mr Charlie Tarrant (piano and voice), Mrs Jennifer Flatman (woodwind) and Ms Judi Glabraith (cello and double bass) as they join our ever-growing team of peripatetic music tutors at Boundary Oak.

If your son/daughter is interested in starting instrumental vocal lessons, please do see the school offi ce for a form to fi ll in. We are particularly looking to take on more brass pupils, and... Cello and Double Bass teaching is a particularly exciting addition to our provision (and we now have a double bass in the music department for new students to practise on). Please do let me know if you are interested!

In addition, just to remind everyone that if you are intending to stop instrumental lessons, a full term’s notice is required, please.

With very best wishes, Richard Dewland, Head of Music

Important Reminder: Please can we remind all parents, across the whole school, that we do not permit any food items to be brought into school under any circumstances. Please ensure that your child nishes any snacks before entering school and does not bring food, or treats for their friends, into school.

This week Little Acorns have had a great time! A puddle hunt welly walk on Monday, fantastique French lesson learning colours on Tuesday, amazing gymnastics lesson with Mr Mathias on Wednesday, bread roll baking on Thursday, and making ‘dancing sticks’ on Forest Friday!

Beat the traffic In a bid to alleviate traffi c on the school site in the mornings, we will now be running a daily pupil shuttle minibus to school from the Sainsbury’s Broadcut car park (left hand corner by the pedestrian ramp). The shuttle bus will leave Sainsbury’s promptly at 8.00am and again at 8.20am.

This service will be available to all pupils in Years 1-10 and will be free of charge. Unfortunately, we are unable to transport Pre-school and Reception aged children due to staff ratios.

There will be 16 seats available on each minibus so we ask you to please book a seat by contacting Sam Sharp at [email protected] or by calling the school offi ce.

In addition to the shuttle service, pupils in years 4-10 are now be dropped off to the main school from 8.00am (instead of 8.15am), with no breakfast club charge. Pupils should enter the school through the main building front door and sit in the formal library until 8.15am, at which time they can then start making their way to their form classroom. It is very much hoped that the shuttle and earlier opening time will help to reduce the traffi c fl ow on site at the peak time in the morning and make for a smoother start to everyone’s day.

We also now have members of staff around to help the fl ow of traffi c through the Arch at busy periods. They can help direct you but please bear in mind, at the correct speed and with due consideration, it is possible to fi t two medium sized 4x4’s side by side along the driveway to the school. This should only happen in the mornings, when no pupils use the driveway, in order to alleviate the fl ow in extreme circumstances, rather than a regular occurrence.

We also run minibus for routes, please see below or check our website further details. Minibus Routes We are now running the following bus routes both in the morning and after school (the after school bus leaves school at 5:30pm to allow for those staying for clubs and/or Prep). If you would like more information or are interested in using these routes, please speak to Sam Sharp in the offi ce, for more information.
