C-SPAN to Provide Live Convention Coverage, Commercial and Commentary-Free
Continuing the Network's Tradition Since 1984 of Covering the Conventions C-SPAN to Provide Live Convention Coverage, Commercial and Commentary-Free **Additional Content for TV, Online, Social Platforms** Washington, DC (August, 2020) — C-SPAN, the political network of record, will provide its national audience with live coverage of the 2020 Republican and Democratic presidential nominating conventions (August 17 – 20 for the Democrats, and August 24 – 27 for the Republicans). Both conventions will be televised on C-SPAN, streamed live on C-SPAN.org, carried live by C-SPAN Radio, and be immediately catalogued and archived online in the C-SPAN Video Library. Each individual speech can be independently viewed and shared via the Video Library on C-SPAN.org. C-SPAN has provided LIVE gavel-to-gavel coverage of the conventions since 1984 on its flagship network. In 2000, C-SPAN was the first to livestream the conventions in their entirety, online at C- SPAN.org. In addition to complete coverage, TV programming, airing on the C-SPAN networks, will include: 1. LIVE reactions from everyday Americans following each night of convention. 2. Senior Political Editor Steve Scully, who has covered every convention for C-SPAN since 1992 and attended every convention since 1980, will host a nightly recap show with guest journalist. 3. C-SPAN’s live morning call-in program “Washington Journal” will focus on the conventions including guests' journalists and viewer calls from 7am 10am ET daily. 4. C-SPAN will present archival coverage from past conventions at 6pm ET every night. C-SPAN Sets Board Leadership at Annual Meeting Cox Communications President & CEO Pat Esser elected as chairman of the C-SPAN board Phil Spencer, president and CEO of Vyve Broadband, joins C-SPAN board; C-SPAN Co-CEOs Rob Kennedy and Susan Swain to serve as senior executive directors (December 15, 2020) – The C-SPAN board of directors added several new members and elected Cox Communications President and Chief Executive Officer Pat Esser to serve as chairman at their annual meeting, held virtually in light of COVID-19 restrictions. Dave Watson, CEO of Comcast, who just completed a three-year term as C-SPAN executive committee chairman, assumes the role of vice chairman of the board. Phil Spencer, president and CEO of Vyve Broadband, will take a seat on the board for a two-year term. Rich Fickle, president and CEO of NCTC, and cable pioneer Bob Miron, retired chairman of Advance/Newhouse Communications, were re-elected to their seats. C-SPAN Co-CEOs Rob Kennedy and Susan Swain also will join the board, serving as senior executive directors. Brian Lamb, longtime C-SPAN chairman, remains a member of the board as founder director. “C-SPAN is a national treasure that provides the public with unprecedented and consistent access to government proceedings and balanced coverage of political news,” said Esser, the newly elected chairman. “Because of its compelling mission, the network continues to attract the brightest and most experienced leaders in our industry, including Brian Lamb, whose vision and passion originally brought it to life.
