SWISS INDOORS BASEL TALKING POINTS

• Roger Federer is going for a perfect 10 at his home ATP Tour event, the Swiss Indoors Basel. The No. 1 seed is a nine-time champion at Basel, and has compiled a 71-9 win-loss record at the tournament. Federer has won his last 20 matches at the event, which spans title runs in 2014-2015 and 2017-2018. His last loss at Basel was to Juan Martin del Potro in the 2013 final.

• Federer will face a stellar field at the event as seven Top 20 players are in the mix. No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev is eying one of the remaining two singles spots at the Nitto ATP Finals, an event which he won last year. He sits in 7th place in the Race to London, one spot behind No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, who has already clinched a spot at the season-ending championships.

• Basel contenders Roberto Bautista Agut, Fabio Fognini, and David Goffin all occupy spots just outside the Top 8 in the Race to London, as they aim to pick up valuable points at the ATP 500 event. Also rising in the Race is Swiss No. 2 Stan Wawrinka, who is seeded to face his compatriot Federer in the quarter-finals. Wawrinka played his second final of the year at Antwerp on Sunday, where he fell to resurgent in three sets. Wawrinka is seeking his first ATP Tour singles title since winning at Geneva in May of 2017.
