A seasoned music educator, Mr. Owens is active as a composer, conductor and clinician throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Owens has written nearly 200 commissioned and published works for concert band and string orchestra. His music has been programmed at prestigious venues such as the Midwest Clinic and appears on required music lists both nationally and abroad. Principal commissions include those from the California Band Directors Association, the Chicago Public Schools Bureau of Cultural Arts, the South Plains College Dept. of Fine Arts and the Texas University Interscholastic League. He is a consistent winner of the ASCAPlus award and a two-time recipient of the Forrest L. Buchtel Citation for Excellence in Composition. Professional memberships include ASCAP, the American Composers Forum and the Texas MEA. William resides in Fort Worth, TX with his wife, Georgia. About the Music “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than those you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the wind in your sails. Explore...dream...discover.” Mark Twain To the passionate sailor, little else compares with the thrill of exploring a limitless world of wind and light completely void of borders. Dedicated to Linda McDavitt, this spirited work portrays the splendor and majesty of navigating the great waters. The title of the work was inspired by the name of Ms. McDavitt’s sailboat, Bonfire. The majestic opening of the music typifies a beautiful day for sailing when perfect weather and a stalwart sea-ready vessel entices excitement and anticipation. As the tempo suddenly becomes quick and brisk, the journey is now at hand! A ship’s bell can be heard intermittently throughout the piece to further characterize the joy of the sail. Rehearsal Suggestions Effective execution of style and dynamics are vital to capturing the character of the piece. While the use of divisi with the Trombone/Euphonium/Bassoon part will greatly enrich the harmony, ensembles of limited resource are encouraged to play only the top notes as the functionality of the music will not be impaired. If no ship’s bell is available, Previewa brake drum will make an adequate substitute. Students will be exposed to many different musical opportunities and experiences. 5. Students will perform music of various styles and skill levels. 6. Students will obtain a sense of pride, self-respect, and self-confidence through membership in the Peachtree Charter Middle School Band. Materials: All Band Students need a pencil and a highlighter every day in class. A Tuner and Metronome are needed at home for study and practice. Tuner and Metronome mobile apps are available. Flute players must have a cleaning swab every day. Clarinet and Saxophone players must have 4 GOOD reeds w/reed protector, cork grease, a silk cleaning swab every day. Brass Players (trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba) must have a mouthpiece, valve or slide oil, a small cloth (terry towel or old cotton T Shirt). Percussionists must have a Practice Pad, Bell Kit (to practice at home), stand and case (also to be kept at home), 2 pair of Drumsticks (size 5B or2B), one pair of Bell mallets and a stick bag every day. 7th and 8th grade percussionists also need a Stick and Mallet Pack which includes 1 pair of Timpani mallets, 1 pair of Acrylic or hard Rubber mallets, and 1 pair of hard yarn mallets, and a stick bag every day.

Blues, soul, rock'n'roll, jazz, and folk are recorded in the Bay Area throughout the 1940s and 1950s, without establishing a strong regional identity for San Francisco popular music. Key artists include: Lowell Fulson, Jimmy McCracklin, Vince Guaraldi, Bobby Freeman, Barbara Dane, and the Kingston Trio. B. San Francisco radio DJ Tom Donahue helps establish a rock label, Autumn Records, that gets one of the first Beatles-styled national hits by an American group with the Beau Brummels.     Wordsworth’s Light and Shelley’s Shadow: Revelation in L.M. Montgomery’s Anne and Emily Series Published on Tue, 08/03/2021 - 07:27 In the Anne and Emily series, Anne and Emily are Romantic dreamers who pursue revelation (revealed knowledge about the spiritual world). Both protagonists are Wordsworthian dreamers who experience the light of natural revelation, but Emily also experiences a Shelleyan darkness: the allure of mystery and the despair of anti-revelation. In L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables (1908), Anne first appears at the Bright River railroad station, dreaming of sleeping in a wild cherry tree and waiting for her new life to begin. In Emily of New Moon, published fifteen years later in 1923, Montgomery introduces Emily as she pursues the Wind Woman on a “chilly twilight” before coming home to learn that her beloved father is dying.1 From the beginning, Anne and Emily have a Romantic awareness of natural beauty experienced through vivid imaginations. Through both these characters, Montgomery conveys a “deep curiosity about ‘things spiritual and eternal,’”2 which causes them to pursue revelation—revealed knowledge—about this spiritual world within and beyond the teachings of their Scottish Presbyterian culture. However, the worlds Anne and Emily discover differ. The Anne series, especially Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne of the Island, published from 1908 to 1915, presents Anne as a dreamer who, like Romantic poet William Wordsworth, receives revelation of divine truth through the light of Nature. Anne’s experiences read as a freer and more joyful interpretation of Scottish Presbyterianism’s perspective of Scripture.
