It is part of what makes our town such a special place and we are proud to have been entrusted with continuing the tradition over the last 12 years. Attracting rafters from across the UK the race has raised over £500,000 for charity during its long life. For the tenth year we are supporting St. David’s Hospice Care which provides such excellent care for the community. In 2014 the raft race raised over £30,000 for them, taking our overall total for the 10 years to £177,000. It is hoped that, in this the 50th Raft Race, last year’s total will be surpassed. These events take a great deal of time and effort to organise and my personal thanks go to the team of Rotarians and friends, led by Norman Williams, who have demonstrated one of the core values of the Rotary movement, ‘Service above Self’. My thanks also go to the various organisations that provide sponsorship and help with the event, and of course the indefatigable rafters and their supporters. Finally thank you for supporting us by being here today. Have a great day and enjoy the Raft Race together with the Family Festival at the finish 6 miles down river at Whitebrook.
