Naina Dewan is the new Fine Arts Coordinator at Senior Action. She has worked in the fields of social work, psychology, special education, and the performing arts since 1992. Naina earned a B.A. in Psychology with a Dance Concentration at the State University of New York at Geneseo, a M.F.A. in Dance at Hollins University, and a National Teacher Certification at the American Center for the Alexander Technique in New York, NY. Since relocating to Greenville in 2012, she has taught at Carolina Ballet Theatre, International Ballet Academy, Fine Arts Center, SC Governor’s School of Arts & Humanities, Senior Action, Converse College, and Homestead Hospice. In 2013, she founded Naina Dewan Dance Company, Greenville’s first professional modern dance company. The company has performed at TEDx Greenville, Senior Action, Clemson University, Furman University, Converse College, Artisphere Festival, Greenville County Museum of Art, with Danza Corpus Canada (Toronto), in Caleb Suttles’ film “Do or Dye” at Savannah College of Art & Design, and in Disney Hyperion’s ‘Serafina and the Splintered Heart’ book trailer. She is thrilled to be joining the Senior Action team. 3 3 he 10th Anniversary of Dancing Twith the Carolina Stars was a huge success as nine celebrity dancers and their professional partners left it all on the dance fl oor to support Senior Action. This year the competition was fi erce and all eyes were on the coveted fundraising and dance champion trophies. As a celebrity cast member, the celebrity dancer agrees to raise at least $10,000 while acquiring a costume, shoes, and volunteering HOURS of their time to fi t in the following… an orientation meeting, 12 lessons with a professional dancer (more in most cases), practicing at home, rehearsal, hair and makeup... all leading up to the big event. An event that helped raise $118,100 to support the programs at Senior Action. The star of the night was Mary Ann Sudnick, owner of Mariani’s Boutique, whose goal from the beginning was Dr. Suzy Kim, Gastroenterology to Brad Schulte in a fi erce rendition to raise $30,000 for Senior Action. We would also like to send out a special thanks to our emcee’s Diane Lee (WSPA) and Cody Alcorn (Fox Carolina) and our panel of judges, Michael Cogdill (WYFF), Ernesto Zapata (DJ “EZ”), and Pam Wheeler. Guests cheered our “Heads or Tails” players on until two players were left and Kim Stahlman had the winning choice of “heads” and walked away with $1,000 in cash! The night ended with music by DJ EZ, who packed the dance fl oor with guests celebrating an amazing night. Thank you to Jason Runkle of Cre8tive by Design for producing the event and to our Board of Directors and volunteers for making the night a success.

Costa Jennings Bruce, Director of Berea Community Center Costa joins Senior Action as the Site Director of the Berea Community Center. Costa was born and raised in Spartanburg, SC. She attended Clemson University, where she met her husband, Will, and graduated with a degree in Spanish Language & International Health. Upon graduating, Costa began working with a non-profit organization in Easley, SC called The Parenting Place as a Family Support Specialist. In this role, Costa met with local families to provide in-home parent education through the Health Families America home-visiting program. In 2015 she moved from Clemson to Asheville and began working at Blue Ridge Health as Patient Navigator, where she met with patients to connect them to community resources such as food pantries, housing organizations, health insurance, and more. Costa enjoys attending Clemson Football games, exercising, reading, finding new local restaurants to try with her husband, and spending time with her cat, Maple, and her rabbit, Riddle.
