Almost half of the B&H population was forced from their homes. The ethnic map of the country was changed drastically and overall damage was estimated at US $100 billion. Experts agree that misuse of the media was largely responsible for the events that triggered the war and kept it going despite all attempts at peace. This study examines and follows the efforts of the international community to regulate the broadcast media environment in postwar B&H. One of the greatest challenges for the international community in B&H was the elimination of hate language in the media. There was constant resistance from the local ethnocentric political parties in the establishment of the independent media regulatory body and implementation of new standards.

The thesis argues that analysis of these practices shows how this culture is consumption oriented, event-driven and media obsessed. Initially, this argument is developed from a critical, hermeneutic, relativist and interpretive assessment that draws upon the works of authors such as Baudrillard and De Bord and other critiques of contemporary ‘digital culture’. The empirical part of the thesis then examines the array of popular search terms used on the World Wide Web over a period of 16 months from September 2001 to February 2003. Taxanomic classification of these search terms reveals the limited range of virtual and physical artefacts that are sought by the users of Web search engines. While nineteen hundred individual artefacts occur in the array of search terms, these can classified into a relatively small group of higher order categories. Critical analysis of these higher order categories reveals six cultural traits that predominant in the apparently wide array of search terms; freeness, participation, do-it-yourself/customisation, anonymity/privacy, perversion and information richness.

    The Effect of Naturism on Body Image and Interoceptive Awareness Robert J Hargreaves Birkbeck College, University of London License: Attribution-Non-commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ Research considering the benefits of Naturism on body image recently re-emerged after decades of neglect. The present study continued prior work assessing positive body image and went further adding an instrument used to assess Eating Disorder treatment efficacy expecting to benchmark naturists with very low symptomatology scores. Self-report Interoceptive testing was also employed to consider neurological underpinnings and benefits of their exceptional resilience. 43 naturists (37 male), average age 57, and 36 controls (21 male), average age 38, British origin, participated online. Utilizing the Body Appreciation Scale 2 and The Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire, naturists consistently, significantly achieved higher positive, and lower negative body image scores across all measures. Naturist results on the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness 2 across all dimensions were also persistently higher than controls. Naturist results confirm their position as a unique population demonstrating exceptionally high negative body image resilience, this coupled with potential advantageous neurological benefits that with further investigation could lead to naturism becoming a proactive mind-body therapy to help prevent eating disorders. Comprehensive future philosophical, phenomenological and longitudinal research options were also put forward. 2 Introduction A Body Image Dissatisfaction Epidemic Body and appearance dissatisfaction in the Western world have reached epidemic proportions with general population estimates of between 23-56% for women, and 15-43% for men, leading to the term ‘normative discontent,’ meaning it has become normal for the general population to feel dissatisfied with their body (Fallon, Harris & Johnson, 2014).

    BBC Learning English Weekender World Naked Bike Ride Jackie: Hello, I'm Jackie Dalton and you're listening to Weekender with bbclearningenglish.com. Do you enjoy cycling, taking your bike out and getting some exercise or fresh air? What about cycling with absolutely no clothes on? Well, I've never tried it myself, but hundreds of people all over the world have, and they think it's lots of fun. This weekend, the World Naked Bike Ride takes place. People in cities from Vancouver to London will be getting out their bicycles and taking off their clothes. The question is: why? Conrad Schmidt is the man who's linking up cyclist groups from around the World for this event. He spoke to me over the telephone from Vancouver and he's going to give us some answers. What reasons does he give for the naked bike ride? Conrad It's about getting a message out there that cycling is good for people and it's good for the planet and that if we're going to be sustainable, we've got to think about other things besides car culture. And just making a happier, healthier planet. Jackie: Well, Conrad said cycling is good for people and good for the planet. He uses the word sustainable – a word we often hear in connection with the environment. It means to do things without causing damage to the environment.
