These excused absences related to a serious medical condition that an immediate member of my family was undergoing requiring my attendance at physician and hospital appointments. During my previous four years in the legislature, I missed only 34 out of 2,164 roll calls – a 98.43% mark. Despite missing more time than usual this year, I was able to be here for virtually all of the major votes, including the budget and the transportation investment package. I was able to pass important legislation and budget provisos, including expanding the supply of medical professionals in rural and underserved areas, closing the opportunity gap and helping more low-income students succeed in high school and attend college, and improving health care screenings for developmentally disabled infants so we can get them the help they need as early as possible. I’m proud of my record, despite dealing with an unexpected medical emergency in the family. I believe all people should be able to take such time for immediate health concerns of family members and have co-sponsored legislation that would allow this. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of the 46th district, Seattle and all of Washington.” -Sen. David Frockt (D-Seattle) “Sen. Steve Hobbs is an active member of the National Guard and must report for duty every Thursday evening, whether or not the legislature is in session. The Thursday dates which would have conflicted with Sen. Hobbs’ National Guard obligations were: March 5; April 2, 9, 16. If his missed votes correspond with these days, that is why. Also, it should be noted he came back to vote on 4/2 and 4/9 after Guard duty was completed. Thank you for your time...” -Sen. Steve Hobbs (D-Lake Stevens) “Regrettably, I had to miss some votes this session due to my new role as Senate Democratic leader. The session involved frequent leadership meetings with the Senate Republicans, House leaders and the Governor’s office, often called on an impromptu basis. As my caucus is not in control of scheduling floor time, sometimes I had to miss votes due to these other meetings.” -Sen. Sharon Nelson (D-Maury Island) “Sen. Warnick did miss some roll call votes recently due to the death of her mother back in district. Please let me know if you need any additional information.” -Sen. Judy Warnick (R-Moses Lake) State Representatives “Thank you for your message, I wanted to let you know that Representative Hurst had to have shoulder surgery during session and this caused him to miss a few votes this year.” -Rep. Christopher Hurst (D-Enumclaw) “Rep. Kristiansen missed these votes because he was ill and would be happy to provide a note from his doctor.” -Rep. Dan Kristiansen (R-Snohomish) “Thank you for the email. Your report is accurate. I missed 74 roll call votes due to illness. Those missed votes occurred on 4/13/15 and 4/14/15. I had a violent stomach 24-hour flu and was sent home on the 13th. On the 14th, I was able to come back to the floor for three votes and then had to leave again to return the next day.” -Rep. Joan McBride (D-Kirkland) “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond. In early April I missed 69 House votes because I was out of state for a very serious, life-threatening family member emergency.” -Rep. Norma Smith (R-Clinton) **The legislators above do not necessarily represent the most missed votes, 2 other legislators who missed the most votes who were contacted did not submit a response (Sen.
