VOLUME 1284 SAINT PETER ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH NUMBER 1285 THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME January 24, 2021 THIS WEEKEND: SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD The Sunday of the Word of God, instituted by Pope Francis and to be held every year on the third Sunday of Ordinary Time,1 reminds us, pastors and faithful alike, of the importance and value of MARK YOUR Sacred Scripture for the Christian life, as well as the relationship between the word of God and the liturgy: “As Christians, we are CALENDAR one people, making our pilgrim way through history, sustained by the Lord, present in our midst, who speaks to us and nourishes MONDAY – JANUARY 25 us. A day devoted to the Bible should not be seen as a yearly 6:30AM – Mass event but rather a year-long event, for we urgently need to grow in 7:00AM – Patriotic Rosary our knowledge and love of the Scriptures and of the Risen Lord, TUESDAY – JANUARY 26 who continues to speak His word and to break bread in the 6:30AM – Mass community of believers. For this reason, we need to develop a WEDNESDAY – JANUARY 27 closer relationship with Sacred Scripture; otherwise, our hearts 6:30AM – Mass will remain cold and our eyes shut, inflicted as we are by so many 5:30-6:30PM – Confessions [Church] forms of blindness”.2 THURSDAY – JANUARY 28 1 Cf. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily. SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. JANUARY: MONTH OF THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS – There is no HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTION FOR JANUARY name more powerful than the name of Jesus. The Catechism sums up the power of this name beautifully: “The name ‘Jesus’ contains all: God and Human Fraternity man and the whole economy of creation and salvation. To pray ‘Jesus’ is May the Lord give us the grace to live in full to invoke Him and to call Him within us. His name is the only one that contains the presence it signifies. Jesus is the Risen One, and whoever fellowship with our brothers and sisters of other invokes the name of Jesus is welcoming the Son of God who loved him and religions, praying for one another, open to all. who gave Himself up for him”. (CCC #2666) 00 JANUARY IS PRO-LIFE MONTH “If people spent an hour a week in Eucharistic Adoration, abortion would be ended.” ~St. Teresa of Calcutta “A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and THURSDAY, JANUARY 21 – FRIDAY, JANUARY 29 Nationwide Annual Pro-life Novena, 9 Days for Life, from the heart of every believer.” Join thousands of Catholics nationwide in the annual pro-life ~Pope Saint John Paul II, Evangelium vitae, 100 novena, 9 Days for Life, Thursday, January 21 – Friday, January 29.
