Evacuation Planning: When a hurricane threatens, evacuating is the smartest move. It helps to be prepared. When local officials call for an evacuation, get going without delay. • Make a checklist of what you need to do before you leave town and review it. • Monitor NOAA weather radio and local TV and radio broadcasts during storm season. • Learn your evacuation routes. Make sure you have a FULL TANK OF GAS before you leave. Expect traffic delays. • Prepare an emergency supply kit including: radio, flashlight, extra batteries, extra eye glasses, bottled water, non-perishable food, dry clothes, bedding, insurance information, important documents, medications, copies of prescriptions and special products for babies, the elderly and medically fragile family members. • Include your pets in your emergency plans. Create a list of available pet friendly lodging along your evacuation route. Build a separate emergency kit for your pets including food, water, treats, their favorite toy, vet records and tags. Local Emergency Management encourages you to sign up at www.thestan.com or dial 1.877.843.7826 to receive alerts. Refer to Ready.gov for Emergency Preparedness Information.
