The Yemen Peace Forum initiative is a track II youth and civil society platform facilitated by the Sana’a Center and funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This interactive initiative seeks to both invest in building and empowering the next generation of Yemeni youth and civil society actors and to engage them in critical national issues. Building on the Sana’a Center’s core goal of producing knowledge by local voices, this initiative seeks to develop and invest in young policy analysts and writers across Yemen. Funded by The Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies is an independent think-tank that seeks to foster change through knowledge production with a focus on Yemen and the surrounding region. Situation analysis Description of the disaster During the month of April, Yemen has experienced heavy rains which caused flash floods in different governorates of the country requiring immediate assistance. On 21 April, a tropical storm hit the southern coast of Yemen with highest impact in Lahj, Aden, Taiz, Ad Dali’, Abyan and Hadramawt. According to preliminary assessments, at least 150,000 people were affected across 13 governorates, including 64,000 internally displaced people. According to the UNOCHA Flash Floods Update No.21 and Flash Floods Update No.32, the health authorities in Aden reported on 22 April the deaths of seven people, including four children, while two people were missing. -

Nutrition and Mortality Survey in Aden governorate Yemen 8 – 13 August 2015 Ministry of Public Health and Population Aden Governorate Health Office United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nutrition and Mortality Survey Report Aden Governorate, Yemen Conducted 8 – 13 August 2015 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The Yemen Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP)/ Aden Governorate Public Health and Population Office, in collaboration with UNICEF Yemen Country Office and UNICEF Aden Zone, and Field Medical Foundation (FMF), acknowledge the contribution of the various stakeholders in this survey. The UNICEF Yemen Country Office provided technical support, employing SMART methodology. The Survey Manager and his assistant were provided by IOM and CSSW. Survey enumerators, team leaders, and data entry team were provided by GHOs of Lahj and Aden. The data analysis and report writing were made by two FMF consultants. UNICEF YCO provided the overall technical assistance especially on sampling, questionnaire and the guideline. The Aden Governorate Public Health and Population with FMF oversaw the political and logistical arrangements for the survey, ensuring its smooth operation. The Nutrition survey was supported financially by UNICEF under a grant from the UK Department for International Development (DfID); this support is greatly appreciated. The contribution of local authorities in ensuring the survey teams’ security during fieldwork and in providing office facilities is gratefully appreciated. It more closely resembles a region of mini-states – beset by a complex range of internal politics and disputes – at varying degrees of conflict with one another, than a single state engaged in a binary war. • An unintended consequence of the conflict is that the south of the country is rapidly moving towards outright autonomy. Southern Yemen has a long history of agitation for independence. Historically, political elites and foreign officials believed that the ‘southern question’ could be deferred indefinitely because of a lack of cohesion or strategy among secessionist groups. • Although not entirely unified, pro-independence groups have become much more organized and heavily armed. Recent fighting in Aden between secessionist and pro-government forces demonstrated the relative power and cohesion of the pro-independence movement; and the potential for the southern issue, if left unaddressed, to further complicate efforts to end the ongoing Yemen civil war. • In a reversal of a quarter of a century of increasingly centralized control from Sana’a, Yemen’s capital, southern governorates now have their own evolving military, police and security infrastructures, largely drawn from the local population. -
'Beautiful Aden': Environmental Sanitation and Life-Saving
‘Beautiful Aden’: Environmental sanitation and life-saving emergency flood response As SDRPY reduces health risks from environmental and visual pollution and helps curb the spread of epidemics and disease, its work crews in Aden have become first responders during lethal floods in the province. According to the Cleaning and Improvement Fund of Aden (CIFA), 1,200 tons of domestic and commercial waste have piled up every day in the streets of Aden in recent months, causing serious environmental and health hazards. Local doctors report a spike in hygiene- related diseases – including illnesses caused by infection, insect-transmission and water- borne parasites. The lethality of recent floods has highlighted the importance of the goals of the ‘Beautiful Aden’ environmental sanitation and hygiene campaign, launched by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) on 23 March 2020 in collaboration with CIFA and civic organizations. The campaign’s key goals include reducing health risks from environmental and visual pollution and helping to curb the spread of epidemics and disease, dangers heightened by the flood disaster. The campaign was launched with the aim of removing up to 9,000 cubic meters of accumulated waste from streets and public areas in Aden Governorate in more than 600 transfers per month for three months, with the number of beneficiaries projected to be 589,419. The campaign has included de-watering, drainage and desludging operations that have mitigated the direct consequences of the floods. Rescue and recovery experience in action When torrential rains and floods have hit the area – causing extensive damage, destruction and even fatalities – the campaign has been able to adapt to the emergency and respond, while still achieving its original targets on schedule. -

Received by NSD/FARA Registration Unit 03/22/2020 10:48:34 PM PRESS RELEASE Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen Launches “Beautiful Aden” Campaign The 3-month initiative includes cleaning, afforestation and road rehabilitation. ADEN, Yemen / 21 March 2020 - In the temporary capital of Aden, the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has launched a cleaning, beautification and environmental sanitation campaign, using heavy equipment donated by the program, to collect and remove up to 9,000 cubic meters of accumulated waste from streets and public areas. This campaign will last for three months and will also include planting new greenery, erasing graffiti and repairing streetlights throughout the city. The hygiene and environmental sanitation campaign aims to improve urban character and reduce health risks from environmental and visual pollution. It will also contribute to raising the level of performance of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in Aden (CIFA), providing more advanced and higher quality services to Yemeni citizens. Working in partnership with CIFA, the program will cover 10 neighborhoods in 8 districts: Sheikh Othman, Mansoura (Abdel Aziz and Cairo), Dar Saad, Buraiqeh (Inma and Al Shaab), Khormaksar, Al Mualla, Tawahi and the Crater District. The campaign was launched in the presence of the governor of Aden, Ahmed Salem Rabeea, and the head of the SDRPY delegation, Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hadi. During the inauguration, a memorandum of joint cooperation was signed between SDRPY and CIFA to contribute to improving and developing Aden. Governor Rabeea affirmed that the support of SDRPY is continuous and without limitation, adding that the campaign would contribute to curbing the spread of epidemics and diseases. -
