Abstract: Wetlands are unique ecosystems formed by the interaction between land and water on Earth. Poyang Lake, which is a part of China’s largest freshwater lake wetland, is well known for its ecological and economic importance. This study uses a social-ecological system (SES) framework that integrates watershed and human activities; we used action scenarios to analyse the influencing factors, solutions, and feedback mechanisms involved in the SES framework. We chose Nanchang, Jiujiang, and Shangrao in the Poyang Lake wetlands of the Jiangxi province as the study areas to provide a problem-oriented analytical strategy for the organic interface between ecological conservation and green development. The key issues indicate that the Poyang Lake region faces multiple problems, such as ecosystem structural changes and environmental pollution, caused by anthropological Citation: Feng, J.; Zhao, Z.; Wen, Y.; activities, inefficient implementation of conservation policies, and insufficient funding for pollution Hou, Y. In 2008, the United Nations urged countries around the world to actively implement the “Green Economy” and “Green New Deal”. In addition, the Chinese government has made a commitment to the SDGs by organically integrat- ing the sustainable development agenda with China’s national medium and long-term development plan and have set out details and programmes for specific goals. Therefore, in the context of the 2030 sustainable development goals, it is very relevant to study the relationship between ecological protection and green development. Poyang Lake provides a good case study for the research. At present, Poyang Lake is facing the same “development paradox” dilemma as other developing countries in the world; the ecological environment and fluctuation of ecological laws have been critically damaged in the process of economic development and income growth [2] and are troubled by the serious contradiction between protection and development. In terms of economic devel- opment, continuous population growth and irrational economic development patterns have exacerbated the degradation of the wetland ecosystem. In terms of ecological envi- ronment, the lack of policies related to wetland protection has caused frequent occurrences of tragedy of the commons in the Poyang Lake area. Poyang Lake is undergoing a pe- riod of overlapping and advancing economic development and ecological protection and converging history [3]. Therefore, realising the organic link between green development and ecological environmental protection in the Poyang Lake region has become an urgent and significant problem in reversing the decline of the ecosystem service function in the Yangtze River basin. This is also crucial for helping the ecologically fragile area of Poyang Lake to deal with its ecological management crisis and to realise the coordination between environmental protection and economic development. We reviewed previous studies extensively and found that scholars have analysed the connotation of green development from the perspective of the relationship between the natural environment and human, social, and economic development. Charest analysed the relationship between green development and water resources, human health, and economic development during the study of the Canadian Green Plan and reported that a connotation of green development is the coordination of natural environment and human activities [4]. There are also several scholars who directly studied the embodiment of green develop- ment in the economy, expanded the connotation of green development concept from the perspective of the green economy, and analysed the connotation and mechanism of green economy from the perspective of environmentalism. “Green” is the symbol of healthy development of the environment and a green economy is the product of environmental protection. When discussing the development path of the green economy, many scholars have analysed the operating mechanism and internal requirements of the green economy and interpreted the characteristics of changes in economic development from red to green environmental management policies [5–7]. In addition, scholars have also analysed the basic characteristics and developmental requirements of the green industrial revolution and discussed the institutional thinking about the green economy; they have studied the impact of the green economic structure on the world using specific countries as examples and the relationship between green economy and smart growth under neoliberalism [8–10]. In the field of wetland conservation, in recent years, researchers have focused more on enhancing sustainable watershed management by developing policies to implement eco- logical restoration, assessing the impacts of conservation projects on wetland ecosystems using a conceptual model to define socio-economic vulnerability, and considering different stakeholder perspectives to enhance sustainable watershed management [11–15]. This pro- vides an opportunity for organisations such as the Society of Wetland Scientists to raise the profile of wetlands and to initiate a discussion on how to respond to and change direction of the destructive development trajectory that led to wetland loss and degradation [16]. Additionally, the field of social sciences has begun to focus on ideological connotations, policy design, and adaptive governance to achieve green development of regional complex ecosystems. For example, scholars compared the differences and relationships between green and sustainable development and analysed the function and mechanism of green development. They believe that green development is the effective unity of the economic, Int. J. Environ. Res. Public Health 2021, 18, 2572 3 of 23 social, and natural systems. This type of development proposition not only satisfies people’s material and cultural needs but also their ecological and environmental needs, and it goes beyond the proposition of sustainable development

It has created “Ningguo Miracle” since 1990s. Its general economic capacity has been ranked #1 (the first) among all the counties or cities in Anhui Province since 2000. In order to analyze the influencing factors of competitive advantages of Ningguo City and explain “Ningguo Miracle”, this article have evaluated, analyzed and classified the general economic competitiveness of 61 counties (cities) in Anhui Province in 2004, by 14 indexes of evaluation index system. The result showed that compared with other counties (cities) in Anhui Province, Ningguo City has more advantages in competition. The competitive advantage of Ningguo City is due to the productivities, the effect of the second industry and industry, and the investment of fixed assets. Then the influencing factors of Ningguo’s competitiveness in terms of productivity were analyzed with authoritative data since 1990 and a log linear regression model was established by stepwise regression method. The results demonstrated that the key influencing factor of Ningguo City’s competitive advantage was the change of industry structure, especially the change of manufacture structure.

  • Advances in Geophysical Methods Used for Uranium Exploration and Their Applications in China
ADVANCES IN GEOPHYSICAL METHODS USED FOR URANIUM EXPLORATION AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN CHINA J. DENG, H. CHEN, Y. WANG, H. LI, H. YANG, Z. ZHANG East China University of Technology, Nanchang, China 1. INTRODUCTION Geophysics is one of the most useful techniques for uranium exploration. It supports the development of geological models through the definition of lithological, structural and alteration characteristics of metallogenic environments under evaluation. With exploration at increasing depths, the traditional radiometric method is no longer effective for uranium exploration. Uranium mineralization is not closely related with observable gravity, magnetic and impedance anomalies. Gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic techniques can be used to survey the subsurface geological background of an area and can be efficient in detecting deeper uranium deposits [1]. The progression and development of geophysical methods, measurement techniques, data processing, computer modelling and inversion have permitted improvements in the field of uranium exploration [1, 2]. It is well known that progress in geophysical methods has contributed to successful field investigations in the exploration for deeper deposits (including uranium). Xu et al. [2] have reviewed the latest advances and developing trends in geophysical and geochemical methods and techniques applied to uranium resources exploration in China [2]. Following this work, this paper summarizes the research carried out by the East China University of Technology during the past decade. This includes 3-D inversion of magnetic data and 3-D electromagnetic methods tested in the Xiazhuang area over granite type uranium deposits [3, 4] and in the Xiangshan area over volcanic type uranium deposits [5]. Results indicate that some of the objectives, including mapping of basement structures, rock interface and lithology recognition, can be achieved.

  • The Mishu Phenomenon: Patron-Client Ties and Coalition-Building Tactics
Li, China Leadership Monitor No.4 The Mishu Phenomenon: Patron-Client Ties and Coalition-Building Tactics Cheng Li China’s ongoing political succession has been filled with paradoxes. Jockeying for power among various factions has been fervent and protracted, but the power struggle has not led to a systemic crisis as it did during the reigns of Mao and Deng. While nepotism and favoritism in elite recruitment have become prevalent, educational credentials and technical expertise are also essential. Regional representation has gained importance in the selection of Central Committee members, but leaders who come from coastal regions will likely dominate the new Politburo. Regulations such as term limits and an age requirement for retirement have been implemented at various levels of the Chinese leadership, but these rules and norms will perhaps not restrain the power of Jiang Zemin, the 76-year-old “new paramount leader.” While the military’s influence on political succession has declined during the past decade, the Central Military Commission is still very powerful. Not surprisingly, these paradoxical developments have led students of Chinese politics to reach contrasting assessments of the nature of this political succession, the competence of the new leadership, and the implications of these factors for China’s future. This diversity of views is particularly evident regarding the ubiquitous role of mishu in the Chinese leadership. The term mishu, which literally means “secretary” in Chinese, refers to a range of people who differ significantly from each other in terms of the functions they fulfill, the leadership bodies they serve, and the responsibilities given to them.
