browncountylibrary.org Sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Adventure! The Summer Reading Adventure kicks-off on Saturday, June 9 and this is the first day you can sign up to participate! When you register at any Brown County Library location, you’ll receive an “Adventurer” card to track the hours you spend reading. Every completed card (five hours read) becomes an entry in the drawing for prizes in August. There is no limit on entries so keep reading! Bring the family to the kick-off event! Local experts will be giving 40-minute classes on their areas of expertise throughout the library all day long. This is a great chance to finally try that thing you always wanted to do, or learn something you never thought you would try! Tuesday, June 5 6:15 pm Perspectives: Opioid Crisis A community issue, a community discussion. Learn about this hidden yet growing problem in the nation and here in Green Bay. Watch a documentary and listen to a panel of local community experts. Ask questions and learn more about this epidemic. Thursday, June 7 6:00 pm Come Color Club and More Drop in to color a picture, work on a puzzle, play a game, make a new friend, or just hang out! Light refreshments provided. Wednesday, June 20 6:00 pm Paranormal Wisconsin -Tales of Ghosts, UFOs and Mysterious Creatures This presentation is an eerie combination of the most bizarre paranormal topics. Hear about the strangest cases of alien abductions, haunted places, mysterious creatures, crop circles, and everything else weird and unusual. This program covers the entire spectrum of Wisconsin’s supernatural activity. Presented by Chad Lewis, paranormal researcher. (This program was originally scheduled at the East Branch) Tuesdays 6:00 pm Tuesday Nights in the Edible Garden Drop in for an informal tour of the library's edible garden outdoor classroom; harvest veggies and fruits ready to pick; ask questions about gardening; enjoy informal hands-on gardening activities; spend a few minutes helping with planting, weeding, watering or whatever is happening in the garden; ask questions about gardening. June 12 Plant Yo’ Junk Have a favorite old pair of shoes you won't wear again, a rusty teapot, or an old coffee can? Bring in your junk, and we will provide the seeds/soil to plant it! Watch your junk come to life again as your plants grow this summer! Join us for this fun & FREE gardening session. July 10 Stupendous Stepping Stones Join us in our outdoor garden as we make and decorate cement stepping stones for you to take home and enjoy in your garden! Supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own small treasures to add to your stepping stone. August 14 Terrariums are Terrific! Create your own a mini-ecosystem to take home. Don't forget the recipe! If you just want to come to talk, listen and enjoy a snack, that's fine, too! June 19 Cookouts and Picnics are on the agenda this month. Wednesdays 6:30 pm Green Bay Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club June 20 Kindred by Octavia Butler Join us for a discussion of Octavia Butler's bestselling novel Kindred. This combination of slave memoir, fantasy, and historical fiction is a novel of rich literary complexity. July 18 Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny This month we'll discuss Roger Zelazny's Hugo Award winning novel, Lord of Light. In a post-Apocalyptic world where a few technology-endowed immortal humans rule the Earth as the pantheon of Hindu gods, one among them, Siddhartha, dares to oppose their tyranny. August 15 The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden For August, we are off to Medieval Russia for this series opener. Based on Russian fairytales, this atmospheric fantasy will keep you on the edge of your seat. Central Library Continued Mondays 6:00 pm Book to Action Book Club Participate in a fun book discussion AND engage with our community. We will read books focused on each month's topic, meet to discuss the books, and hear about volunteer opportunities and available resources. Tour will meet at the Library and walk down to Washington Street. (limit 20) July 28 Join us as we stroll along Adams Street and learn how a neighborhood changed from residential to commercial. Tour will meet at the Library and walk down to Adams Street. (limit 20) August 25 Join us as we stroll down Jefferson Street to learn about the homes of city and county government. Get hands on experience with state of the art digital music production software and hardware. Laptop programs, keyboards, and drum machines will be available. Adults may even find an artistic outlet for stress or supplementary income as a deejay or producer. Led by Derrick Holt, DAA instructor. Required to attend all sessions. Central Library Continued Thursday, July 19 6:00 pm Hypnotist: Andrew Becker Always original, never scripted, you will laugh hysterically as Andrew Becker takes audience volunteers on a guided tour through their imaginations. Watch audience members participating on stage, and maybe get hypnotized yourself. This show for 6th grade and up. Thursdays, July 26 & August 9 5:00 pm Cosplay Workshop: A Countdown to Comic Con® Event Attention cosplayers! Are you putting together the perfect cosplay outfit for the Brown County Library Comic Con® on September 29th? Get some help and use our sewing machines to take your design to the next level! You supply the fabric and other supplies and we will the have the thread and tools you need to finish a project. For all ages - children under age 10 must attend with an adult.
