To survive in the harsh reality of Moscow, the financier Philippe Jordan spends his evenings drawing Indians, creating ballerinas, and meeting oligarchs. And it helps! Philippe is quite an unconventional banker. During working hours he is deals with derivatives, futures and options, but in his private time he makes paintings on glass, and art from paper. “It seemed to me that there was always some magic at the Ballet: the music played, the notes came alive, the ballerinas flew in the air” Philippe was born in Strasbourg, and his stepfather, Robert Grossmann, not only was the vice- mayor of the town of Strasbourg, but also a long-term associate of Nicolas Sarkozy – “the man who thirty years ago taught the future French president the art of public speaking.” The former president of France also has one of Jordan’s works: a courier delivered it, and after a few days, Philippe received a letter of thanks. Unconventional by nature, again in 2010, Philippe invited his friend in Moscow, the French author Michel Houellebecq, who once compared Philippe’s works to those of Giorgio de Chirico. The story of their friendship is downright amazing. After reading the novel "The Map and the Territory," Jordan was shocked - the book’s main character was so much like him. He, like Jordan, met with Abramovich. And also painted a portrait of Houellebecq.

    3 JUNE 2014 THE ROYAL BALLET TOURS TO MOSCOW, TAIPEI AND SHANGHAI The Royal Ballet Tour - Moscow 17 – 22 June / Taipei 27 – 29 June / Shanghai 3 – 5 July This summer The Royal Ballet will tour to Moscow, Taipei and Shanghai for the annual international tour. The Royal Ballet is delighted to return to Moscow, its first visit since 2003, where it will be part of the UK-Russia Year of Culture celebrating the rich and diverse cultural heritage of both countries. As part of the celebrations The Royal Ballet will perform in The Bolshoi Theatre between 17 – 22 June, presenting a Triple Bill of Tetractys by Wayne McGregor, Rhapsody by Frederick Ashton and DGV: Danse à grande vitesse by Christopher Wheeldon. The Royal Ballet will also perform Manon by Kenneth MacMillan, one of the signature works from the Company’s repertory. Tetractys, an exhilarating fusion of baroque music and contemporary dance, received its UK premiere in February and is Wayne McGregor’s latest work for The Royal Ballet. Rhapsody was created in 1980 by Frederick Ashton for the 80th birthday of HM The Queen Mother. It is a celebratory showpiece, set to sweeping music by Sergey Rachmaninoff, and pays tribute to virtuoso dance. Christopher Wheeldon's award-winning DGV: Danse à grande vitesse is a high- octane finale, set to Michael Nyman’s score, MGV (Musique à Grande Vitesse), which was composed to commemorate the 1993 inauguration by the north European line of the French train TGV. Manon, Kenneth MacMillan’s acclaimed tragic ballet is a modern masterpiece telling the story of Manon Lescaut, a young woman longing for love who is corrupted by wealth and luxury in 18th century Paris.

Closing date for applications Monday 22 March 2020. The Royal Ballet is delighted to announce the continuation of its Emerging Choreographer Programme for 2020. An opportunity for emerging choreographic talent, the role is based at the Royal Opera House, and offers the successful applicant the chance to work alongside some of the world’s leading choreographers and with dancers of The Royal Ballet on developing their own choreographic projects. Inaugural Royal Ballet Emerging Choreographer Charlotte Edmonds trained at The Royal Ballet School where she was a finalist in the Ninette de Valois Junior Choreographic competition for three consecutive years. She also won the Kenneth MacMillan Senior Choreographic Competition in 2011 and 2012. During her time at The Royal Ballet, Edmonds created a number of original works including Meta, Piggy in the Middle and Sink or Swim, an innovative dance film which shines a light on the effects of depression and mental health. Edmonds has also created works for Dutch National Ballet Juniors, Norwegian National Ballet 2, Rambert School and The Grange Festival. Her most recent works include Words Fail Me, a project exploring the relationship between dance and dyslexia, and Wired to the Moon, created for Ballet Cymru.
