Mushtaque Ahmad, Secretary General, Hockey India It is my honour to applaud the performances and varied contribuons of our athletes, administrators, coaches and everyone who has contributed to an another successful year for Indian Hockey. The Hockey India 2nd Annual Awards succeeded in appreciang the sweat and blood that every player and support staff has shed for making the Naon proud with the remarkable performances last year that won us accolades in India and abroad. Acknowledging excellence at all levels in 2015, the Hockey India 2nd Annual Awards was marked as a glorious celebraon of sportsmanship. This year we laid special focus on giving recognion to rising talent and team achievements. In parcular, my compliments are extended to all the award winners in the 2nd edion of the Hockey India Awards. In encouraging the constant pursuit of excellence and unwavering loyalty towards the game, I would like to extend my best wishes to everyone who has made the Hockey India Awards a huge success. The heartwarming feedback we received on the Hockey India Awards has further movated us to keep up with our efforts and take the Awards to the next level in other edions to come. VOL-19 Special Edition 2016 HOCKEY INDIA 2nd ANNUAL AWARDS 2015 Nominations For The Hockey India 2nd Annual Awards Hockey India has released the list of nominations for the much-awaited second edition of the Hockey India Annual Awards. These awards are given in recognition of excellence in performance for 2015 and overall contribution to the game of hockey. The second edition of the most coveted awards in Indian hockey carries a total prize money of over INR 2.00 Crore. The Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 30.00 lakh and trophy, while the Dhruv Batra Player of The Year for each Men and Women awards carry cash prize of Rs. 25.00 lakh each plus trophies. The Jugraj Singh Upcoming Players of The Year (Men) and Asunta Lakra Upcoming Player of The Year (Women) awards that are given to promising under-21 players carry cash prize of Rs. 10.00 Lakh each and trophies. Apart from this, awards instituted in honour of former greats of the game will be given for outstanding individual performance in the field. The President Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Baljit Singh Award for Goalkeeper of The Year, the Pargat Singh Award for Defender of The Year, the Ajit Pal Singh Award for Midfielder of The Year and Dhanraj Pillay Award for Forward of The Year each carry cash prize of Rs. 5.00 Lakh each and trophies. The second Hockey India awards were also facilitate players, both men and women, who achieved significant milestones such as playing the 100th or 200th international match for India or scored a goal on debut appearance. The milestone awards carry cash prize of Rs. 1.00 lakh and Rs. 50,000 respectively. At these awards, the women's team and the support staff will be facilitated for making history by qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The junior men's team and the support staff will be also facilitated for winning Gold at the 8th Junior Men Asia Cup, while the senior men's team and the support staff will be honoured for winning Bronze in the Hockey World League Final that was held at Raipur. Hockey India hosted the 35th edion of Champions Trophy in Bhubaneswar from December 6-14. While Germany was the winner, the Indian team fared well and was placed fourth in the Tournament. Players from the Indian squad were also recognised for their outstanding performance during the tournament. My congratulaons to P R Sreejesh for winning the Tata Steel Best Goalkeeper of the tournament, Akashdeep Singh for MCL Best Junior Player of the tournament, Sardar Singh for NALCO Fan's Choice and S V Sunil for Cairn India Most Energec Player awards. The team had won the Indo-Australia series in Perth earlier in November. The Indian Junior Women Hockey Team also played a six match series against New Zealand which was followed by the Senior Women team who were a tough compeon to Italy. India's Junior Men Team stood tall against Australia, Japan and New Zealand in Australia which is a great achievement. In its endeavour to produce and nurture young talent, Hockey India also recently announced the launch of its 'Online Academy Plaorm' to guide the young talent. The iniave is a comprehensive programme aimed at helping young aspirants to learn the new tricks, strategies and development in the game. Hockey India also announced the 'Hockey India Annual Awards' from the current year for the most promising and potent players from the current as well as upcoming teams.
