    Washington Pilots The Paine Flyer Association The Paine Flyer September 2018 President's Message by Rich Jones The Bonanzas to Oshkosh mass arrival at EAA AirVenture This year marked my 29th AirVenture at Oshkosh. I had been considering “returning to my roots” in Classic Camping but for a variety of reasons we decided to participate in the Bonanzas to Oshkosh mass arrival again this year. We had a record number 149 Local Chapters under aircraft participating and as usual Larry Gaines organization and planning was outstanding. Larry even sent out a survey aircraft to www.WPAFlys.org check the weather along the route just before the scheduled depar- ture time. Unforeseen circumstances caused Rockford Tower to Contents delay our departure after we had 149 aircraft lined up on the runway in rows of three. The summer has certainly gone by fast so far. There have been many events over the past couple of months to keep us aeronautically occupied. The Arlington NWEAA Fly-in, EAA’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, and our usual Saturday morning fly-outs are just a few of the things that our members have been attending. We recently held a chapter fly-out to Orcas Island, and Gary Evans has been teaching educators how to bring avia- tion into their classrooms through the Science of Flight for Teachers program.
