Hawks general manager Rick Sund showed up to Jamal Crawford's home in Seattle last summer after a Draft night trade brought the veteran guard to the Hawks from Golden State. Crawford didn't need as much convincing as Sund might have thought, but the conversation flowed and by the time they were done a plan was hatched. After a decade as a starter, Crawford would come off the bench for the Hawks and help a team take the next step in its evolution from a doormat to a contender while also recreating his own image around the league. "It's a great feeling and a great moment to see it all coming to fruition," Crawford said Tuesday after winning the 2009-10 NBA Sixth Man Award presented by Kia. "You never know what to expect when you go through that kind of transition, but I can HEADLINES honestly say things have worked out even better than I could have imagined.

This was back in 2001-02, in Evans' difficult NBA rookie season, when the T-Wolves staffer marveled at both his strength and his conditioning. "Mo is an incredible athlete," the coach said as Evans whooshed off on another baseline-to-baseline run. "Man, this guy would make a terrific tight end." Yeah, fine, except that Evans had been trying to crack the Wolves' rotation as a swingman. A bruising pass catcher in the NFL? Right size and skills maybe, but wrong sport. Evans was one year removed from the University of Texas, and still three years away from getting a serious toehold in the NBA, a career break that required two years in Italy (Benetton Treviso) and Greece (Olympiacos) during which he essentially studied abroad how to become a pro basketball player.

  • PUBLICATION: Foxsports.Com DATE: 2/20/15
PUBLICATION: Foxsports.com DATE: 2/20/15 All-Star Horford leading charmed life with white-hot Hawks By: Jay Clemons ATLANTA -- Life's pretty good for Al Horford these days. He's a highly productive starter (per-game averages: 15.6 points/7.4 rebounds/1.3 blocks) on the Atlanta Hawks -- the NBA's best team at the break (43-11). He's been busy accepting kudos for being named the "NBA Player of the Month" for January -- an honor shared with the Hawks' entire starting five ( Kyle Korver , Paul Millsap , Jeff Teague , DeMarre Carroll). He's married to a former Miss Universe (Amelia Vega), with the happy couple expecting their first child sometime in the very-near future. Plus, Horford's still riding high from a thrill-a-minute NBA All-Star Weekend, where the Hawks players and coaches were the talk -- and toast -- of New York City, fielding many questions about the club's hot start ... and their chances of capturing Atlanta's second major sports championship (after the 1995 Braves). Not bad for a Dominican Republic-born and state of Michigan-raised big man, who's beenliving a charmed life for the last 10 years. If not longer. "Just being with the (Hawks coaches and players in New York City) and sharing in the All-Star experience, it was awesome," said Horford this week, noting the joys of watching teammate Dennis Schroder in the Rising Stars Challenge, getting four Atlanta players in the All-Star Game (Horford, Korver, Teague, Millsap) and being coached by a familiar face on the East squad -- Atlanta's Mike Budenholzer.
