Rain Gardens, Microbioretention Systems, and Native Tree Cost-Share Program Available for Institutional Properties in Northeastern County in 2017

Gunpowder Valley Conservancy rain garden installed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Middle River.

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy received a grant from the Department of Natural Resources to reimburse up to 80% of the cost of storm water best management practices including rain gardens, microbioretention systems, and native tree plantings installed on the property of qualifying religious and nonprofit institutions, and privately owned conservation easements in the Lower Gunpowder Falls, Middle River/Tidal Gunpowder, and watershed areas.

Your religious or non-profit institution may qualify if located in: Towson, Parkville/Carney, Glen Arm, Kingsville, Perry Hall, Middle River, Chase and White Marsh.

Projects include FREE initial property owner consultations to determine the site, size and type of the practices and cost-share for professional design, contractor preparation (as applicable), and all native trees, shrubs, and perennial plants. In addition to these cost savings, the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy will also recruit volunteers to assist with the projects labor needs.

What are rain gardens and microbioretention sytems?

Gardens designed to reduce storm water runoff by capturing runoff through a landscaped depression that allows water to soak into the ground instead of running into storm drains or on to pavement Systems can be installed in yards, parks, schools, and commercial properties
