King’s Lynn was one of England’s most important ports from as early as the 12th century and this maritime past is still very much in evidence today. Fine old merchants’ houses stretch down to the river between cobbled lanes and the elegant Custom House overlooks the original medieval harbour. At the heart of the medieval old town, magnificent King’s Lynn Minster dominates the Saturday Market Place which also features the distinctive Trinity Guildhall and historic Town Hall, home to Stories of Lynn, King's Lynn's latest attraction which tells the stories of the town and its people over more than 800 years of history. Take a short walk past the grand buildings and merchants’ houses of Queen Street and King Street, towards the magnificent Tuesday Market Place, probably one of England’s grandest squares and home to the Corn Exchange, now a thriving concert hall. Just a short walk from here is the magnificent St Nicholas’ Chapel and nearby True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum. Discover the town's courtyards, alleyways and merchants' yards with the King's Lynn Town Guides and visit the Tourist Information Centre at the Stories of Lynn venue within the town hall complex. Take a stroll along King’s Lynn’s historic waterfront beside the River Great Ouse. Stop for a meal or refreshments and watch out for boats arriving at the visitor pontoons. Be sure to visit after dusk and watch King's Lynn's stunning Lynn Lumière light projections. Why not take the opportunity to:- • Visit Lynn Museum, home of the Seahenge display and other fascinating exhibits. • Stroll through King's Lynn's beautiful parkland 'The Walks' and find the fascinating Red Mount Chapel. • Pick up a copy of Discover King's Lynn to help you explore this historic town. 7 8 Where to stay Please note: map numbers refer to the map on page 5, Guest Accommodation prices can refer to a per-night basis and Self-catering prices can refer to a per-week or per-weekend basis.
