ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION DATE: 02/23/2021 Hawks crumble in final seconds of loss to Cavaliers By: Sarah K. Spencer https://www.ajc.com/sports/atlanta-hawks/hawks-crumble-in-final-seconds-of-loss-to- cavaliers/AJWKTFNBRZFTNJXPTAFOXQWDSM/ In another late collapse, the Hawks lost to the Cavaliers 112-111 Tuesday in Cleveland. It ended the Cavs’ 10-game losing streak. Next up, the Hawks (13-18) will try to get their first win on the second night of a back-to-back when they host the Celtics Wednesday at State Farm Arena. Below are some takeaways from the loss: 1. After missing three games for the birth of his second daughter, Londyn Elle, Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce was back at the helm Tuesday night. Pierce was originally expected back for the game against Denver Sunday, but had to test negative for COVID-19 for longer at the league’s behest, since he had been on a plane and in a hospital recently. Assistant coach Nate McMillan filled in for Pierce for those three games, with the Hawks recording a win against Denver and splitting a series vs. Boston. 2. Against a Cavaliers team that was missing Andre Drummond, Kevin Love, Larry Nance Jr., Taurean Prince, Matthew Dellavedova and Marques Bolden, this was a truly bad loss for the Hawks, who continue to struggle to close out games. Tied 84-84 entering the fourth quarter, they worked their way up to a six-point lead with about five minutes to play and seemed to be trending in the right direction, but allowed Cleveland (11-21) to hang around and steal a win late.

  • Bucks Into Playoffs As Giannis Outguns Nets Duo Suns Reclaim Top Spot; Dubs Lose Despite Curry’S 37
Established 1961 Sport THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2021 Bucks into playoffs as Giannis outguns Nets duo Suns reclaim top spot; Dubs lose despite Curry’s 37 LOS ANGELES: Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 36 points as the Milwaukee Bucks punched their playoff ticket with a 124-118 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. The heavyweight showdown between the Eastern Conference rivals did not disappoint, with the two sides matching each other shot-for-shot before the Bucks pulled away in the final quarter. Antetokounmpo led from the front for Milwaukee, with 12 rebounds, four assists and five turnovers to seal the Bucks win. Milwaukee improved to 41-24 with the win to remain in third place in the East just behind second-placed Brooklyn, who dropped a third straight game to fall to 43-23. Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton backed Antetokounmpo with 23 points apiece, while Bryn Forbes added 14 points off the bench. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant combined for 70 points for Brooklyn, who were once again missing the injured James Harden. Irving finished with 38 points and Durant added 32, while Joe Harris (12), Jeff Green (10) and Mike James (10) also made double figures. Antetokounmpo meanwhile downplayed the signifi- cance of the Bucks’ victory, which followed a win over the Nets on Sunday. “Great win, and I’m happy that we were able to put on a show for our fans and build good habits from those games, but that’s all,” Antetokounmpo said. “They don’t mean nothing. Nobody’s going to remember these games when we’re in the playoffs.” Rising Suns MILWAUKEE: Giannis Antetokounmpo #34 of the Milwaukee Bucks shoots the ball during the game against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday at the Fiserv Forum Center in Elsewhere Tuesday, Devin Booker scored 31 Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
