Fun Facts: A Short History of the Boston Bruins Jersey 1924 - The NHL expands to the United States for the first time, with the Boston Bruins joining the league. The original jerseys were brown and gold. 1936- The Bruins exchange the brown for black and get rid of the bear. 1924 Bruins Jersey 1940 - The Boston Bruins set a new record with a 23-game unbeaten streak en route to a first-place finish and introduce the all gold jersey. 1948 - The spoked B is introduced, and the gold jersey is replaced by black and gold, similar to modern day Bruins uniforms. 1955 -The NHL mandates that dark uniforms be worn by the home team, and white uniforms be worn by the visiting team. This arrangement would be reversed in 1970, eventually changed back in 2003. 1967 - Laces appeared for a short time on jerseys. 1970 - Teams switch home and road jerseys. Teams now wear white (or yellow) jerseys at home and dark colored jerseys on the road. 1940 Bruins Jerseys 1973 - The Bruins wear patches on both shoulders to celebrate the team's 50th NHL season. 1979 - Helmets are now mandatory for all players signing their NHL contracts on or after June 1, 1979. 1991 - All teams wear a patch commemorating the NHL's 75th anniversary. In addition, the Original Six -- Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, the New York Rangers and Toronto -- wear throwback uniforms for select games. 1992 - All teams wear a patch commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup. 1995 - The NHL's third jersey program gets underway with five teams - - Anaheim, Boston, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and Vancouver -- unveiling alternate jerseys. One would stick around for a while, one for a couple years, one would become the team's new full-time road jerseys and the other two are quickly put to pasture. 1955 Bruins Jerseys 2000 - The NHL rings in the new millennium by having all teams wear an "NHL 2000" patch. 2003 - The NHL does a switch up of sorts -- dark jerseys become home jerseys, while white jerseys are the new road jerseys. It's the first season for that arrangement since 1969-70. The league also introduces the Vintage jersey program, in which seven teams -- Boston, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Montreal, the New York Rangers, St. Louis and Vancouver wear uniforms of the past for select games. 2007 - The Reebok Edge uniform system, introduced at last season's All-Star game, takes full hold, as all 30 teams make the switch. At first, the new moisture-repellant material presented a problem, with moisture making its way to the players' gloves. As 2007 turned to 2008, the jerseys were re-done, using much of the same material as the previous uniforms, keeping the new form-fitting construction. 2008 - The original Bruins bear logo returns to the jersey. 2010 - In hosting the 2010 Winter Classic, in which the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime, 2-1, the Bruins wear special 1995 Bruins Jerseys throwback-inspired uniforms, with the Winter Classic patch on the upper right chest. The Bruins later wore the uniform twice at the TD Garden. View more jerseys from the Unofficial NHL Uniforms website. .
