A conference between the District Surveyor and the Railway Traffic Branch led to Coolamon being suggested and agreed to by all parties. "Coolamon" is an aboriginal name meaning "dish or vessel for holding food or water". A plan showing the northern boundary of Coolemon (Coolamon) Holes Run in 1870 shows a cluster of numerous water holes which he referred to as Coolamon Holes. This was the native name given to the holes and the origin of the name as applied today. The name being finalised and the extent of the village and suburban boundaries fixed, the village of Coolamon was gazetted on 3rd October, 1881.

Although it deals essentially with the historical aspects of the naming of streets, roads, etc., of the City of Wagga Wagga, these pages will be the means of imparting to local people and others, the significance of names so applied over the years. At the same time, it will, I am confident, be of tremendous interest to a great number of people, both young and old. Wagga Wagga, in common with the Riverina Area of New South Wales, has played a significant part in the development of this State, as well as Australia as a whole. The City has grown from small, humble beginnings into an important, regional centre, which can justly be claimed to be the largest inland centre of population in New South Wales. Today it proudly lays claim to be "The Garden City of the South". It has derived a certain prominence throughout Australia and Overseas by reason of the plurality of its name and the peculiarity of its pronunciation/spelling; from various legends, folk lore and historical influences - as well as from a few former resident who have, in a number of ways, participated for various reasons in the National and International 'spotlight'.

Media release 12 December 2014 Riverina farmers start harvesting broadband benefits More than 5,300 local homes and businesses now able to connect to the NBN A Euberta fish farmer is amongst the first in the region to experience the benefits of fast broadband following the official ‘switch on’ of the National Broadband Network (NBN) in the Riverina today. NBN Co has also announced more than 5,300 farms, homes and businesses across 22 Riverina communities are now able to connect to the NBN. NBN Co spokesperson, Joe Dennis said: “The rollout of the NBN is gaining momentum across country NSW, providing homes and businesses with access to internet speeds and bandwidth that many in the big cities take for granted. “The NBN also helps create many economic and social opportunities for regional communities. It can help residents access e-health services, distance education and entertainment on demand, whilst businesses have the ability to increase productivity, reduce costs and access new markets.” Noel Penfold, Murray Darling Fisheries said: “Farmers can no longer operate efficiently and competitively using phone signals alone for their connectivity – we need access to fast broadband to grow our businesses. “My Telstra NBN connection is now an essential service, like electricity and water. It’s critical to the general operations of my farm and will help me access interstate and international markets.” NSW Farmers Vice President Derek Schoen said: “Digital technology is central to the future of agriculture and farmers are embracing it as fast as they can. With fast broadband, local farmers can potentially increase crop yields through better targeting of water and fertilisers as well as livestock production through improved animal management and superior pasture utilisation.
