Bandjubiläum mit Welttournee Neun Shows im November/Dezember 2019 in Deutschland bestätigt Tickets ab Donnerstag, dem 14. März 2019, erhältlich Frankfurt, 11. März 2019 - OMD (kurz für Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark) krönt die Feierlichkeiten zum 40. Bandjubiläum mit der Ankündigung einer besonderen Welttournee. Sowohl Martin Cooper als auch Stuart Kershaw werden die Band auf der Tournee begleiten, die im Oktober in Portugal beginnt und im Februar 2020 in Paris zu Ende geht. In Deutschland ist die Band in folgenden Städten live zu erleben: in Rostock am 25. November 2019 in der Stadthalle, in Dresden am 26. November im Kulturpalast, in Leipzig am 27. November 2019 im Haus Auensee, in Berlin am 29. November 2019 im Tempodrom, in Hamburg am 30. November 2019 in der Grossen Freiheit, in Saarbrücken am 2. Dezember 2019 in der Saarlandhalle, in Stuttgart am 3. Dezember in der Liederhalle, in Düsseldorf am 5. Dezember in der Mitsubishi- Electric-Halle und in Frankfurt am 6. Dezember 2019 in der Jahrhunderthalle. Der allgemeine Vorverkauf beginnt am Donnerstag, dem 14. März 2019. Die heutige Ankündigung stellt einen weiteren aufregenden Beitrag zu den fortwährenden Feierlichkeiten zum 40. Jubiläum der Band dar, im Rahmen derer zunächst ihre ersten vier Klassikeralben von Miles Showell in den Abbey Road Studios mit Half Speed Mastering bearbeitet und neu auf 180-g-Vinyl in ihrem gestanzten, vom legendären Peter Saville entworfenen Original-Kultcover herausgegeben wurden. „Elektronische Musik ist unsere Sprache“, sagt Andy McCluskey. „Auf diese Art machen wir uns verständlich.“ „Uns geht es am besten, wenn wir alle gemeinsam in einem Raum sind und arbeiten“, fügt Paul Humphreys hinzu. „Dann sprühen die Funken und Ideen entstehen. Das ist heute noch genau so, wie es schon immer war.“ Die Band wurde 1978 von den Freunden Andy McCluskey und Paul Humphreys als Teenager gegründet. Sie wurden schnell zu Elektro-Pionieren mit einer Reihe während der 80er 1/2 veröffentlichten Hitalben und verkauften schlussendlich bis heute über 25 Millionen Singles und 15 Millionen Alben im Laufe ihrer Karriere, durch die sie sich als Vorläufer im Einsatz elektronischer Synthesizer und eine der beliebtesten Popgruppen Großbritanniens etablierten. Letztes Jahr im Oktober gab OMD zudem zwei von der Kritik gefeierte Konzerte in der Liverpool Philharmonic Hall mit dem Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Beide Shows waren ausverkauft und umfassten Orchesterfassungen von vielen der größten OMD-Hits. The Times gab der musikalischen Gestaltung vier Sterne und beschrieb sie als „perfekt mit dem Orchester abgestimmt und eine Bestätigung, dass OMD keine Kompromisse eingeht.“ Es wurde überdies erwähnt, dass die Band „jedes bestehende Rock‘n‘Roll-Klischee ablehnte und die Philharmonic Hall zu ihrem spirituellen Zuhause machte.“ Die Show fiel mit dem Jubiläum des allerersten Auftritts von OMD zusammen, der im Oktober 1978 im legendären Liverpool-Club Eric‘s stattfand. Im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten entstand zudem ein spezielles Buch zum 40. Jubiläum – ein Muss für alle Fans – in dem die Geschichte von OMD von den Anfängen als Garagenband bis hin zu den aktuellsten ausverkauften Tourneen erzählt wird. The world tour starts in October in Portugal, stretching through to February 2020 finishing in Paris, and the band will be joined by both Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw. Today’s announcement comes as part of another exciting installment of the band’s 40th anniversary celebrations which first saw the reissue of their first four classic albums on 180g vinyl, mastered at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road and housed in their original iconic die cut sleeves designed by the legendary Peter Saville. “Electronic music is our language,” Andy McCluskey says. “It’s how we talk.” “We’re at our best when we’re in a room together, working,” Paul Humphreys adds. “That’s when the sparks and ideas happen. It’s the same now as it ever was.” The band were formed in 1978 by teenage friends Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. They quickly became electro-pioneers with a string of hit albums released throughout the 1980’s, eventually selling over 25 million singles and 15 million albums across their career to date, establishing them as electronic synthesiser pioneers and one of Britain’s best-loved pop groups. Last year OMD also played two acclaimed concerts at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in October.
