He is principal conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s contemporary MusicNOW series and of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago . He also conducts Contempo at the University of Chicago, the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), the Callisto Ensemble, the DePaul University Symphony Orchestra, and various at Indiana University, where he was in residence fall 2005 . One of few musicians studying orchestral repertory with Chicago Symphony Orchestra Music Director Daniel Barenboim, Colnot is assistant conductor for Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Workshops for young musicians from Israel, Egypt, Syria, and other Middle Eastern countries . He is also assistant conductor at Pierre Boulez’s Lucerne Academy . Colnot graduated with honors from Florida State University and received the 1995 Ernst von Dohnányi Distinguished Alumni Award . He earned his doctorate from Northwestern University and has taught jazz arranging and advanced orchestration at DePaul University and the University of Chicago, respectively . As a bassoonist, he was a member of the Lyric Opera Orchestra of Chicago, Music of the Baroque, and the Contemporary Chamber Players . Peter Ellefson was a member of the Seattle Symphony from 1992 to 2003 . He did numerous recordings with the orchestra, playing trombone, euphonium, and bass trumpet . Ellefson was principal trombone in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen for the Seattle Opera . Ellefson has participated in hundreds of recording sessions for motion pictures, IMAX, television, and video games, working with such composers as Elmer Bernstein, James Newton Howard, Basil Poledouris, and Bill Conti . He has also backed entertainers as diverse as Burt Bacharach, Frank Sinatra Jr ., Ray Charles, James Taylor, Manhattan Transfer, and YES . Ellefson has a keen interest in chamber music and solo repertoire, as well as concerto performances of works by Bloch, Bourgeois, Dorsey, Grondahl, Guilmant, Larsson, Pryor, Pugh, Serocki, Tomasi, Rimsky- Korsakov, and others . He has extensive knowledge in the repertoire of orchestral and chamber music and the commercial and jazz idioms . Christopher Rouse is one of America’s most prominent composers of orchestral music . His works have won a Pulitzer Prize (for his Trombone Concert de Gaudí Concerto) and a Grammy Award (for ), as well as election to the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Letters . Born in Baltimore in 1949, Rouse developed an early interest in both classical and popular music . He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory and Cornell University, counting among his principal teachers George Crumb and Karel Husa . Rouse maintained a steady interest in popular music: at the Eastman School of Music, where he was Professor of Composition until 2002, he taught a course in the history of rock for many years . Rouse is currently a member of the composition faculty at The Juilliard School . While the Rouse catalog includes a number of acclaimed chamber and ensemble works, he is best known for his mastery of orchestral writing . His music has been played by every major orchestra in the U S. . Rouse’s works have earned him numerous awards, including the Kennedy Center Friedheim Award for Symphony No . 1 (1986), his Pulitzer Prize-winning Trombone Concerto, and “Best of the Year” designation for 2000 from both Gramophone magazine and Fanfare magazine for the CD of Rouse’s Concerto per Corde, Rotae Passionis, Ku-Ka-Ilimoku, and Ogoun Badagris . Over the past decade, Rouse has gained particular notice for his concerti . Among these are his (1991), the (1994), his (1993), one of his most frequently performed of concerti, and his Clarinet Concerto that debuted in 2001 . His Concert de Gaudí, a guitar concerto, won a 2002 Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition . In 2002, Rouse’s accomplishments as a composer were honored with his election to the American Academy of Arts and Letters .
