This week we have had a major house event to raise money for Headway. Headway is a national charity with a base in Cardiff which aims to improve life after brain injury and provide information, support and services to people affected by brain injury, their family and carers.

Every day this week, different year groups within the College and Senior School have brought in cakes or cookies as part of the Great Howell’s Bake-Off. Every entry has received two house points and Mrs Price and the kitchen staff have been delighted to be the judges of what may well become an annual competition.

House points have been awarded for the best tasting, the best presentation and the most creative cakes, and I am delighted to tell you the results are: Baldwin wins with 394 points, Trotter with 287 points, Kendall with 240 points and Lewis with 200 points. The amount of money raised for Headway is nearly £500. Well done to everyone who has made, judged, bought and eaten cakes this week!

Dates for Your Diary On Wednesday, I attended the Extended Project presentations by Year 13. I was extremely impressed by the standard of the presentations given by College students. The eight students taking part spoke to the audience confidently and knowledgably on the topics they had chosen to study. I heard about Statistics and Football, Face Further Ahead Transplants and Stradivarius violins, to mention just a few of the many and varied topics that were covered. I know I am not the only one who ended the evening feeling better 16th, 17th & 18th October informed and having found the whole experience very rewarding. Congratulations to Beauty & the Beast Gwen, Will, Varum, Chris, both Rebecca’s, Max and Meghan. Many thanks to Mrs Jones, who has worked with the students and organised the event. 6pm in the Sports Hall

th Many thanks also to everyone who contributed to a splendid Harvest display on Thursday, 8 November Thursday. The theme this year was a less traditional one, where we talked about how Year 12 GCSE Prize Giving to grow your talents and help produce a bumper harvest for Howell’s. It is one of the 4pm in the Great Hall few times in the school year where the whole school joins together and we were delighted that the Junior School joined the Senior School and College in a packed Sports Thursday 15th November Hall. The highlight of the assembly was the cast from Beauty & the Beast singing Be My Year 12 Scholarship Exam Guest, displaying their not inconsiderable talents to excellent effect. A special mention 4pm in the Senior School to Kitty, who is Beauty, and Rob, who is the Beast. Both sang a solo at very short notice.

Following this event, I was approached by a number of students in the Senior School Friday, 30th November and College who asked if there was going to be a discount rate for last minute ticket HSL Parents' Association sales. Having thought about this, there are a few seats in the back rows and we have Christmas Fayre decided to offer these at the reduced rate of £5 a ticket. I do hope this will give 2-5pm in the Senior School everyone a chance to come and see this wonderful production. We have been very fortunate that Connie Fisher has been in working with the cast this week and she will be Saturday, 8th December attending the performance on Tuesday night. Jingle Bell Ball I look forward to seeing at the shows next week.
