Winners in the film categories include “DARKEST HOUR,” “PITCH PERFECT 3,” “I, TONYA” and “GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol 2.” Television winners include “GAME OF THRONES,” “DANCING WITH THE STARS,” “THE CROWN,” “BIG LITTLE LIES,” “FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN” and “AMERICAN HORROR STORY: CULT.” Winners in the Daytime Television category were awarded to “THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.”“HENRY DANGER” wins Best Children/Teen Program. Theatrical honors go to MAMA MIA and the Commercial/ Music Video Award was presented to AMERICAN HORROR STORY: CULT - PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN. The awards took place at The Novo by Microsoft at L.A. Live before an audience of more than 900, including guild members, industry executives and press. MUAHS President SUE CABRAL-EBERT presided over the awards ceremony with comedian LONI LOVE (The Real) returning to charm as host for the third year in a row. Eight Primetime Emmy®-winning Hair Stylist MARY GUERRERO (Dancing With the Stars, Hot In Cleveland) received a Lifetime Achievement Award from DWTS dance champion VAL CHMERKOVSKIY. The night opened with a solo performance by FRANKIE GRANDE, accompanied by pianist JEREMY WEINGLASS. POHLMAN, M.A., April 2016, Film Changing Shape: The Evolution of Fat Female Characters in Contemporary American Film Director of Thesis: Ofer Eliaz The purpose of this thesis is to elucidate the fluid conception of fat women within contemporary American culture from the early 1970s to the present. Due to their non- normative embodiment, fat women typically face denigration and marginalization. Most mainstream film narratives reify the negative social positioning of fat women, often through assimilationist characters that resign themselves to fatphobia or otherwise compensate for their fatness. On the flipside, carnival and camp narratives foster liberatory fat characterization, as exemplified by the figure of “the unruly woman.” In his portrayal of both assimilationist and liberationist women, Divine functions as a barometer for subsequent fat characterization.
