ummer is hopefully on the way and we have a bright and Ssunny issue to get you in the mood (was that cheesy enough for you?). Our cover star is none other than Joshua Jay, author, creator, performer, lecturer, magic dealer and magic event organiser, and the rest of his day he just wastes! Despite all he’s done already, he’s only clocked up 34 years, which shows the benefit of a) being hyperactive and b) starting REALLY young! We’re thrilled to have him in our little rag.

Every year over the winter it seems that we lose a number of famous names in magic, and unfortunately this year was no exception. Arguably the biggest of these was Paul Daniels whose sudden departure was a shock to not only everyone in magic but also in the wider entertainment world. In this issue, we take a look at the man and his amazing career and we also feature a personal tribute from Jay Fortune, who had quite a close professional association over many years with the great man.

Want to get more shows at better fees? Wonder why your advertising spend doesn’t bring in as much income as you thought it would? Well, Clive Hyams will explain a means to change all that by using Direct Response Marketing. Read and learn! We also delve a little into the secretive world of and clowning to find out what that’s all about, and in one of our occasional Dealer’s Booth articles, we get to learn more about a very unusual business set up to help magicians.

The weather outside is breathtakingly cold as we walk along the perimeter of Central Park towards the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Once inside, we manage to bypass the queues and begin to explore the expansive collections that the museum holds. Everywhere you look, there is something of intrigue. As we stop, I am told that in front of us is The Temple of Dendur. I feel fortunate on two counts. Firstly, for the chance to see these priceless artefacts in such spectacular surroundings. Secondly, I am having the opportunity to hear one of my close friends talk about something which he is deeply passionate about. Art. George Luck spends time with Joshua Jay

It’s still early days for speciality act, Vox Magique, who present a 45 minute show featuring magic & illusion, singing, comedy and audience participation. However, what makes Vox Magique unique, is that all the tricks being performed relate directly to what is being sung, with each track being written or adapted from scratch by an expert music producer. This unusual presentation makes their act different from the rest, and is gaining great reaction from audiences around the country... magicseen’s Graham Hey chats with Tim Osler and Faye Smith to find out more.

28 MAGICSEEN MAGAZINE MAY 2016 MS: Tell us about how you met, and how you formulated your act…

Tim: We met in 2013, on a ship. I was a children’s entertainer on-board and Faye was an entertainment host. She would introduce and tech my show every day. When both of our contracts had finished, we decided to stay in touch. I was based in London and she lived in Devon, so we were quite a distance apart.

Faye: I didn’t like him much at first, but then I grew to love his…er… ways!

Tim: The following year, Faye joined a show team on a holiday park for 8 months. During this time, I started writing a show with help and direction from Jay Fortune. We decided which illusions were going to feature and auditioned for box jumpers.

However, all these plans changed when, one evening, Jay suggested that Faye could be the other half of the act. Instead of “being my assistant” she could sing whilst I performed the magic. CARL DE ROME... For all those who went to the BLACKPOOL MAGIC CONVENTION in February , I have to say what a fantastic time I had this year. It was great meeting up with old and new friends, and the amount of magicians raving about and performing my HEAT effect took me back. Great news for me was that HEAT actually completely SOLD OUT at Blackpool this year, but the good news is I have now made up a new batch and IT IS NOW BACK IN STOCK for immediate despatch worldwide. So why don’t you join all the other magicians and start performing Heat for yourself today. And remember, I still offer a full 7 day money back guarantee, even if you find you simply don’t like it, BUT YOU WILL. To order your bottle of HEAT….. see the advert in this edition of Magicseen.
