Mandy Dunning All in all a very pleasant afternoon! Editor 01484 883845 Tim Meakes (Son of Janet and Reg) completed the London Marathon in a very creditable time of 4 Hours and 9 minutes. Running on behalf of the Bobby Moore Bowel Cancer Trust, Tim is most appreciative of the support of local residents who contributed £530 in sponsorship and helped him toward a grand total of in excess of £2000 for this very worthwhile charity. 1 The administration committees of groups and organisations learn to take the rough with the smooth, with those of us here in the Potting Shed hoping for a spell of the smooth stuff and continue to buck the trend with our forthcoming Annual Show scheduled for SATURDAY 15th AUGUST 09, in LANE END VILLAGE HALL. With your help and participation we could do that, as we did last year. Our early Spring and current weather is definitely the growing type, if the rate the grass on our lawns is growing then we should have some very good produce, some of which we hope you will display in competition on our show tables come 15th August. From all of us here in the Potting Shed we wish you happy and fruitful gardening. Hon Secretary Lane End Conservation Group Come and join one of our Action Days held on the first Saturday of each month – meet up with those taking part at 10.00 am in the main car park by the Doctors’ Surgery. 2 50+? Do you care passionately about your community? Are you concerned for older people? Would you like your voice to be heard? Get into Action! Through the Bucks 50 Fifty Plus Forum, Buckinghamshire has a growing network of Older People's Action Groups (OPAGs) and individuals, who meet regularly together to promote information exchange and challenge the local providers of services for older people. OPAGs send representatives to the Bucks Fifty Plus Forum which takes their views directly to the people who commission Health, Social and Community services. Our members contribute to the long term development of the Older People's Strategy for the county and monitor the quality of local services. Action groups already exist in Burnham, Chesham, Marlow, Marlow Bottom, Chalfont St Peter, Old Amersham, Stokenchurch and Lane End and have been involved in various campaigns such as the closures of local Post Offices, changes to hospital A & E facilities, intergeneration projects and provision of computer courses - to name but a few. They also establish strong links with Primary Care Trusts (PCT’s), District Councils, County Councils, Acute Trusts and other agencies, to bring about improvements in services. Bucks Fifty Plus Forum welcome enquiries from people in all areas who would like to join our mailing list to receive regular information and become a representative for their own community. APOLOGY to LANE END PHARMACY In December 2008, a letter was sent from Lane End Parish Council to the Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Mr Paul Goodman M.P. containing statements about the Lane End Pharmacy which the Parish Council accepts it has no evidence to substantiate. This resulted in a formal complaint to the Parish Council which, after investigation, has been upheld. The Parish Council accepts and regrets that comments were made in its name on issues where it lacks a full understanding of the circumstances, rules and regulations that apply to such matters. Furthermore, the Parish Council accepts that the letter to the PCT and Mr Goodman should not have been sent and wishes to make a full and unconditional apology to the Dr Olivier Picard, Mr Rex Allott and the Lane End Pharmacy. As a result of the circumstances which led to this deeply regrettable instance occurring, the Parish Council has now put into place new procedures which should ensure that there is no repetition of this situation in the future. Graeme Coulter – Chairman Lane End Parish Council 4 Buckinghamshire’s Home Library Service If you love books but can’t get to a library – don’t worry! Buckinghamshire County Council’s Home Library Service delivers books, story tapes, CDs, videos and DVDs each month to people who have difficulty visiting a library due to age, illness or disability. Trained volunteers, known as Library Visitors, choose the items their customers would like, and deliver them to their homes free of charge. The service is provided in partnership with the WRVS who have both male and female volunteers. We realise that there are potentially many more people who would appreciate the service, and are working closely with many agencies to identify new customers. However, if you know of someone who would like to receive the Home Library Service, please contact us. Alternatively, if you would like to become a Library Visitor, delivering our service to customers, we would like to hear from you. Taking books to people who love to read is very rewarding and much appreciated. Many volunteers become valued friends to their customers. We know the pleasure that reading, listening to a tape or watching a DVD can bring to someone unable to leave their home, especially if they are living alone. For more information on receiving the Home Library Service, please telephone 0845 2303232, or to volunteer 01296 387863, or e-mail [email protected] or web www.buckscc.gov.uk/libraries. 5 Lane End Youth & Community Centre 01494 883878 Email: [email protected] It’s been a busy time here at the Centre; our Parish walks booklets ’10 Walks around the 5 Ends’ is on sale locally e.g. the Post Office and the Pharmacy. We’ve already sold over half of our quota and all money raised will go towards helping the LEYCC to meet residents’ needs and aspirations. Special thanks go to Margaret Adnett, Ross Osborn and the Chilterns Conservation Board for making this project possible. We finally have 120 new chairs for the main hall – 20 of them with back & seat pads for use by the elderly – and we’ll soon have 10 new chairs for our social area as well as 16 new folding tables. The vast majority of the money has come from donations made by various local residents and the ‘Barbara Maher Fund’. Our AGM will be on Wednesday 1 July starting at 7.00pm at the Centre, and we’ll be using this opportunity to thank those involved for their generosity and also renaming the social area.
