There was a wreath hanging, proclamation and cancer remembrance walk at the Courthouse in Union. The Walk included luminaries and pink lights lining the streets of downtown Union and pink ribbon decals displayed in local business windows. The walk around Union was in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of those that lost their battle with cancer. Charles and Dorothy Larew, Monroe County, had their Davis & Elkins women’s volleyball team hosted a ‘Be Bold barn painted for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Think Pink’ night at an October game.     BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR PROGRAM DEPRESSION AND LOSS • It is normal to have some feelings of sadness and loss when one has been diagnosed with cancer. Alterations in body image, fear of death or suffering, disruption of life plans, loss of control, decreased functional ability and financial concerns can all cause distress that results in depression. • It is estimated that 25% of cancer patients experience significant depression yet depression remains one of the most unrecognized and under-treated disorders associated with cancer. • Things that cancer survivors can do to cope with emotional stress include: maintain active involvement in daily life including family, community and work as much as possible; share your thoughts and concerns with a loved one; and get professional assistance handling problems that seem overwhelming. • Signs that you may not be coping effectively include making negative statements about yourself, preoccupation with physical symptoms, avoidance of loved ones or important issues, persistent feelings of hopelessness or helplessness, and recurrent thoughts of death or suicide. • There are many risk factors for depression. If you have a history of depression or poor social support network you may be more vulnerable to significant depression. Certain medications and poorly managed pain can also increase the risk of depression. Every life is a beautiful tapestry woven together of colorful threads, each representing a unique component of an individual’s experience. Trauma and adversity of some sort are undoubtedly part of every tapestry, and mine is no different. Using my personal experience with breast cancer, I examine the concept of post-traumatic growth, recognizing that stress and growth often co-exist and do not negate each other. Cancer is widely recognized as a trauma and is unique because of the threat of recurrence, meaning that the trauma never fully resolves.

A significant number of them face Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that may adversely affect their mental health. Twitter is a social networking site that allows users to interact with oth- ers by posting short messages (tweets). These tweets, which to a certain extent reflect the users psychological state, are convenient for data collec- tion. However, Twitter also contains a mix of noisy and genuine tweets. The process of manually identifying the genuine tweets is expensive and time-consuming. Thus, we stream the data using cancer as a keyword and filter the tweets with cancer-free and PTSD related keywords with- out having to label each tweet manually. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) learns the representations of the input to identify cancer survivors with PTSD. The experiments on real-world datasets show that the model outperforms the baselines and correctly classifies the new tweets. The widespread use of Twitter for socializing has been the alternative medium for data collection compared to traditional studies of mental health, which primarily depend on information taken from medical staff with their consent. The process of manually identifying genuine tweets is expensive and time-consuming.     Dear Friends: I invite you to join us in the fight against breast cancer. Become a member of our Pink Ribbon Sunday team. Across the country, congregations of all denominations are helping to save lives by joining the Pink Ribbon Sunday Program developed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Women’s Health (OWH). The program provides leaders like you with free resources to help educate the women in their church and community about mammography. This education is vitally important because mammography is the best tool we have to detect breast cancer early. The Pink Ribbon Sunday program works with churches, mosques, and temples because they are a main source of spiritual and economic support for African American and Hispanic communities. The program provides religious institutions with a guide and free resources to help them develop mammography awareness activities. The first Pink Ribbon Sunday campaign was conducted at 153 churches in Houston, TX in partnership with the local American Cancer Society. The program has since expanded nationwide to include rural and urban communities from Georgia to Puerto Rico and Washington, DC to Oklahoma. The Pink Ribbon Sunday Program has reached over 100,000 women and with your help this number will continue to grow.
