  • Beatles Cover Albums During the Beatle Period
Beatles Cover Albums during the Beatle Period As a companion to the Hollyridge Strings page, this page proposes to be a listing of (and commentary on) certain albums that were released in the United States between 1964 and April 1970. Every album in this listing has a title that indicates Beatles-related content and/or a cover that is a parody of a Beatles cover. In addition, the content of every album listed here is at least 50% Beatles-related (or, in the case of albums from 1964, "British"). Albums that are not included here include, for example, records named after a single Beatles song but which contain only a few Beatles songs: for example, Hey Jude, Hey Bing!, by Bing Crosby. 1964: Nineteen-sixty-four saw the first wave of Beatles cover albums. The earliest of these were released before the release of "Can't Buy Me Love." They tended to be quickly-recorded records designed to capitalize rapidly on the group's expanding success. Therefore, most of these albums are on small record labels, and the records themselves tended to be loaded with "filler." Possibly, the companies were not aware of the majority of Beatle product. Beattle Mash The Liverpool Kids Palace M-777 Side One Side Two 1. She Loves You 1. Thrill Me Baby 2. Why Don't You Set Me Free 2. I'm Lost Without You 3. Let Me Tell You 3. You Are the One 4. Take a Chance 4. Pea Jacket Hop 5. Swinging Papa 5. Japanese Beatles 6. Lookout for Charlie The label not only spells "Beatle" correctly but also lists the artist as "The Schoolboys." The liner notes show that this album was released before the Beatles' trip to America in February, 1964.

  • Beatles Indian 78'S, Identification Guide
Indian 78 RPM Single Releases Identification Guide Updated 07 Jn 21 Red Parlophone Label With “Trade Mark” in Center India was one of three countries known to have been pressing 78's when the Beatles came along -- the Philippines and Argentina being the others. Of these three, India pressed them the longest, with 78 RPM singles being available practically throughout the Beatles' career. All of the 78's are scarce to rare, with the later singles being hardest to find. Most collectors are unaware that the 78's came out on at least three different label styles. The first of these styles has simply "Trade Mark" in the center of the label. At the top of the label, in the rim, are the words "This copyright record must not be publicly performed without licence." At the bottom of the label are the words "THE PARLOPHONE CO, LTD." Titles Catalog Number "Please Please Me"/"Ask Me Why" R 4983 "From Me to You"/"Thank You Girl" R 5015 "She Loves You"/"I'll Get You" R 5055 "She Loves You"/"I'll Get You" (with "Sample Record" stamp) R 5055 "I Saw Her Standing There"/"Hold Me Tight" DPE 159 "I Want to Hold Your Hand"/"This Boy" R 5084 "Can't Buy Me Love"/"You Can't Do That" R 5114 "Long Tall Sally"/"I Call Your Name" DPE 164 "Love Me Do"/"PS I Love You" R 4949 "Hard Day's Night"/"Things We Said Today" R 5160 Red Parlophone Label With Parlophone in Center and “Incorporated in England” at Top Beginning in mid-1964, Parlophone of India added information to the center of the label and to its rim.

In researching, writing, editing and producing The Beatles Recording Reference Manuals, I made some errors. Some of these errors were of omission, some were of misinterpretations of information that I was challenged on and found my conclusions wanting, and others were bothersome copy/paste issues that were not caught in the proofing stage of book production. Regardless of their type or nature, I take responsibility for them all. I know these books are not cheap to own, and I also know that Beatles fans interested in this material are some of the most detail-oriented fans in the world.

  • Apple Label Discography
Apple Label Discography 100-800 series (Capitol numbering series) Apple Records was formed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in 1968. The Apple label was intended as a vehicle for the Beatles, their individual recordings and the talent they discovered. A great deal of what appeared on Apple was pretty self indulgent and experimental but they did discover a few good singers and groups. James Taylor recorded his first album on the label. Doris Troy recorded a good soul album and there are 2 albums by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. The Beatlesque group Badfinger also issued several albums on the label, the best of which was “Straight Up”. Apple Records fell apart in management chaos in 1974 and 1975 and a bitter split between the Beatles over the management of the company. Once the lawyers got involved everybody was suing everybody else over the collapse. The parody of the Beatles rise and the disintegration of Apple is captured hilariously in the satire “All You Need Is Cash: the story of the Rutles”. The Apple label on side 1 is black with a picture of a green apple on it, black printing. The label on side 2 is a picture of ½ an apple. From November 1968 until early 1970 at the bottom of the label was “MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES INC. USA”. From Early 1970 to late 1974, at the bottom of the label is “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS” From late 1974 through 1975, there was a notation under the “MFD.

  • Playlist August 16Th 2015 Special Guests John Pizzarelli
1 2 Playlist August 16th 2015 Special Guests John Pizzarelli. Vince Calandra, Dave Morrell 9am/Open The Beatles - Good Morning Good Morning - Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Based on a Kellogg’s Cornflakes television commercial John heard while sitting at the piano and feeling a bit “stuck” trying to write something for “Sgt. Pepper.” Paul plays a stinging guitar solo and flourishes with his right-handed Fender Esquire. The basic rhythm track was recorded on February 8, 1967 in eight takes, four of them complete. 3 Overdubs followed with John’s lead vocal and Paul’s bass added on February 16. A horn section consisting of members of the Brian Epstein-managed band Sounds Inc. (previously Sounds Incorporated) was brought in on March 13. Sounds Incorporated had been one of the opening acts on the Beatles’ 1964 and 1965 tours. The Beatles - I’m Only Sleeping - Revolver (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Written by John and Paul at Kenwood, John’s estate in Weybridge, in one writing session. Recording of the backing rhythm track began at 11:30 p.m. on April 27, 1966. John recorded his lead vocal on April 29. Both the vocal and backing track were recorded at variable speed. It was during the recording of “I’m Only Sleeping” that The Beatles discovered the “backwards guitar.” On May 5, 1966, as the band continued working on the song, George painstakingly transcribed the notes in his guitar solo and flourishes and then wrote them out backwards. He then played them in that reverse order.

  • THE BEATLES IMAGE: MASS MARKETING 1960S BRITISH and AMERICAN MUSIC and CULTURE, OR BEING a SHORT THESIS on the DUBIOUS PACKAGE of the BEATLES
THE BEATLES IMAGE: MASS MARKETING 1960s BRITISH AND AMERICAN MUSIC AND CULTURE, OR BEING A SHORT THESIS ON THE DUBIOUS PACKAGE OF THE BEATLES by Richard D Driver, Bachelor of Arts A Thesis In HISTORY Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of Texas Tech University in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of MASTER OF ARTS Approved Aliza S Wong Randy McBee John Borrelli Dean of the Graduate School May, 2007 Copyright 2007, Richard Driver Texas Tech University, Richard D Driver, May 2007 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This work could not have been possible without the encouragement and guidance of a number of individuals, as well as countless persons who pulled books, worked through interlibrary loans, and simply listened to me talk about it. Without the guidance, tolerance, insight, time, and encouragement of my committee, Aliza S Wong and Randy McBee, this thesis would have remained nothing more than a passing thought. Aliza, more than any other professor has been there for me since this project truly began over two years ago. It was her initial push for me to write about something I loved that drove me to attend Graduate school and then build upon what I had done previously with The Beatles “image.” Dr. McBee provided excellent guidance into understanding many of the post-war American facets of this work, not simply those related to The Beatles or music in general. Additional thanks are reserved for Dr. Julie Willett for her class on sexuality and gender where new methods and modes of historical thought were founded in this work. Finally, this thesis would have been impossible had I not been accepted into and granted a teaching position in the History Department at Texas Tech University, and it is to the entire department that I owe my greatest thanks.

  • 1974 Record Releases
1974 UK Record Releases by Date This is a list of all UK 45 singles and EP’s found on the 45 cat website and any new release sheets as of the 25/10/16. Generally records that don't have a full release are not included. Some spoken word only records are not listed, plus “story” ones. Records that would have had a specific week when they were first released, but which dates have not been found, but are known to have been issued on an actual month are included at the end of each weekly listing for the month in question. Numbers in red indicate ownership on 45 cat for those with 5 or more. In some cases, such as chart hits, the number of “wants” is added on. Caution should be noted with ownership figure, as the record might have only been available as a promo record that wasn’t issued to the public. These however will be popular with collectors of records. If it is known to be never issued to the public, what is called on the 45 Cat site as a “stock” record. Then that will not be included. In some cases records by well known acts were never issued as “stock” and some of these have been included, but such records are shown as “promo only”. They are included to show that the record couldn’t have made the charts in 1974. At least as a UK issue! Records that made the charts of the time are only stated where no specific week has been found or if a chart record fails to score 5 ownership indications - indicated by the term hit.
