Dance Pop as a dance genre developed through creating choreographies to pop music (also called funky) and "New Jack Swing" - the form of the post-disco music, characterised by a less syncopated than funk rhythm section and a simple song structure, with a focus on a musical theme and catchy melodies. Famous choreographers of Dance Pop include: Paula Abdul, Tina Landon, Eddie Morales, Marty Koudelka, Travis Payne, Wade Robson, etc. Movements of Dance Pop clearly reflect the nature of music. GROOVE ME NEW JACK SWING FEEL Original Recording Profile Recording Artist: Guy Drummer: drum machine Original Album: Guy Record Label: MCA Recording Date: 1988 Recorded at various studios throughout the New York and New Jersey area Historical Overview This tune set a new precedent when it first hit the airwaves in 1988. It featured this ridiculously funky and utterly infectious groove. The drum beat itself was the main attraction of the song and was deceivingly not as simple as it sounded. This song was produced by Teddy Riley, a pioneer and innovator of a new sound that was dubbed new jack swing. New jack swing was a style of R&B music that combined ol’ skool soul vocals and harmonies with rap interludes to bring about a fusion of old and new music. It had the swing factor of jazz music with the fat backbeat associated with funk. The swingy feeling was most often felt in the arena of the drum machine-programmed percussion, bass drum, and hi-hat parts. In essence, the music was swing funk with modern production and recording techniques that made use of one of its newest tools, the drum machine. Because many of the people that were programming the machines were not drummers themselves, they didn’t consider whether any of us mere humans could play the groove in a live situation when called upon to do so later. This put incredible new demands on drummers that were sometimes a bit overwhelming. But if you were willing to stretch the limits of your playing and get out of your comfort zone, this era was a great opportunity to experience new growth. -

Received 5 January 2015; Accepted 22 July, 2015 This study aimed to differentiate hip-hop dance steps based on whether joy was expressed and explained their movement features using three-dimensional motion analysis. Ten male and female participants (26.9 ± 12.8 years old) were instructed to perform an 80-second hip-hop dance, and the step performed after 60 s (new jack swing) was analyzed. Discriminant analysis was conducted, and the differences in the motion feature values were calculated by establishing 34 variables related to time and space. Furthermore, correlations between major joint sites that contributed to differentiation and other variables were calculated. The results revealed the following three points: The discriminant analysis, which was used to predict whether there was emotion, correctly classified cases at a rate of 70% or higher in four stages, which were motion phases. When the differences in motion features by intensity were identified in Phase 2—the phase with the highest correct classification rate—significant differences were found in the mean of the height in the shoulders, the speed of the left acromion, the speed of the capitellum of the left elbow joint, the speed of the center of the left wrist joint, the speed of the lateral condyle of the left femur, the speed of the right acromion, the speed of the capitellum of the right elbow joint, and the flexion angle of the upper torso. -

During the 1980s three revolutions took hold of popular music: the emergence of disc-jockeys as a creative force (in particular in techno music), the advent of hip-hop (and therefore of the "rapper"), and the marriage of industrial music, heavy metal and hardcore (generically associated with the "cyber-punk" culture). The idea of rapping was imported into New York by the Jamaican immigrants, who were already familiar with "toasting" (a reggae artist talking in rhyme over the instrumental sections of a record). Some of them became disc-jockeys ("dj") that traveled around New York carrying their "sound system" to perform at block parties. In 1975 in the Bronx of New York, one of them, Clive "Hercules" Campbell, or "Kool Herc", started making music with two turntables out of breakbeats (the instrumental breaks of a song that focused on the rhythm section, the favorite part of the song for most dancers), while another young black man of the Bronx, Theodore "Grand Wizard" Livingstone was accidentally discovering the "skratching" sound of a turntable. -
