Comedian Dick Shawn to appear; sponsored by University Events March 30, 1987 Media contact: Ruth Baily, University Events Office, 534-4090 or Alixandra Williams, Public Information Office, 534-3120 COMEDIAN DICK SHAWN TO APPEAR ON APRIL 17 AT UCSD Well known for his wonderful and funny roles on stage, screen and television, comedian Dick Shawn will appear in a one-man show at 8 p.m., Friday, April 17, in the Mandeville Center Auditorium at the University of California, San Diego. With credits that include the character L.S.D. in Mel Brooks' production of "The Producers," the Emperor in Shelly Duval's Fairy Tale Theatre production of "The Emperor's New Clothes," television appearances on such shows as St. Elsewhere, Twilight Zone and Leo and Liz in Beverly Hills, and countless club dates, Shawn has carved out a unique and enviable niche for himself among the classic comedians of our time. In addition to his other thespian achievements, Shawn's two productions of his one-man show, "The Second Greatest Entertainer in the Whole Wide World," have won the Los Angeles and San Francisco Critics Circle Award for Best Production. Some of his film credits include "Love at First Bite," "Wake Me When It's Over," "What Did You Do in the War, Daddy?" and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." He recently starred with Michael Caine in "Water." On Broadway, Shaw replaced Zero Mostel in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," starred in "Fade Out-Fade In," opposite Carol Burnett, and played King Solomon in the musical, "I'm Solomon." Tickets for this event are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors, and $8 for students, and are available from the UCSD Box Office or from TicketMaster outlets throughout San Diego.
