QuickTime Troubleshooting

A number of people have reported issues trying to access the Quick Time Streaming Audio under the “Course Materials” section of the LLC Website. This guide is intended to assist users in troubleshooting the problem.

Install the latest QuickTime Player Make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime installed. The latest version can be downloaded from the Apple website: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/.

Firewall Configuration Make sure your firewall is configured to allow QuickTime traffic to pass. Usually your will inform you that QuickTime is being blocked by the firewall and will give you the option to allow it.

Verify your QuickTime Installation Try playing some other QuickTime to make sure your player works. Try visiting http://trailers.apple.com/ and verify that you can view the streaming media there.

If the videos will not load, this indicates an issue with your QuickTime Installation and not necessarily with just the LLC Course Materials. For general QuickTime troubleshooting visit http://www.apple.com/support/quicktime/ for tips. If you can play other QuickTime media, but still cannot listen to the LLC Course Materials, proceed with the following tips.

MAC OS X ONLY: Configure QuickTime plug-in for your browser All Apple OS X computers come pre-configured with QuickTime installed and working, but in some cases it is necessary to ensure that the QuickTime plug-in is correctly configured to work with your web-browser.

1. Open a Terminal window. (Usually found under Applications | Utilities) 2. Enter the following command & hit enter: cp -r /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/QuickTime* ~/Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/

Windows Only: Configure QuickTime to run in Safe Mode On some Windows machines you may need to configure QuickTime to run in Safe Mode. 1. Start   QuickTime  Advanced

Windows Only: Configure a new user account Occasionally on Windows machines QuickTime problems are due to issues with the user profile. So if you have already tried re-installing QuickTime & configuring it to run in Safe Mode, try creating a new user profile.

Once you have created the new user account, login to it and go the http://llc.ucdavis.edu and see if you can listen to the Course Materials.

Note: If you still cannot get your QuickTime Player to work or feel too difficult to configure, please bring your laptop to the LLC to get support.
