GAME 6: MARYLAND at PURDUE 3 2019 MARYLAND FOOTBALL ON THE OFFENSE By The Numbers 1 TE Tyler Mabry caught a touchdown pass in each of the frst three games of the season, the frst Maryland tight end to so since Vernon Davis in 2005 (at North Carolina, #23 Boston College, at NC State) and the frst time any player has done so since WR DJ Moore in the frst three games of 2017 (at #23 Texas, Towson, UCF). 3 The Terps scored on three straight offensive plays in the second quarter against Rutgers, (Tayon Fleet-Davis 23 yard reception; Javon Leake 42 yard rush; Anthony McFarland Jr. 2 yard rush) in a 2:50 span, the fastest Maryland has done so since scoring three touchdowns in 34 seconds against North Carolina on November 24, 2012. 7 Big Play Offense: Maryland has seven touchdowns of 40-plus yards this season after tallying four last weekend at Rutgers. Those seven big play touchdowns are the third most in the Big Ten, only trailing Nebraska (13) and Ohio State (9). Last season, McFarland broke the Maryland freshman rushing record with 1,034 yards and has fve 100-yard rushing games through the frst 17 of his career. 142 Maryland’s 142 points in the frst two games of the season (79 - Howard, 63 - #21 Syracuse) were the most by a Big Ten team since 1936 (Ohio State, 1996) and the third most by any FBS team over that span, trailing only Ole Miss’ 149 in 2015 and Florida’s 143 in 1994. RB Javon Leake has now returned two kick returns for a touchdown in his career (97 yards vs. Illinois; 10/27/18 & 100 yards vs. Rutgers; 10/5/19), tied for the second most in Maryland history. This week, Leake also tied former Terps Ty Johnson and Will Likely for the most Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors with two. The junior has accumulated 898 in his career, the 13th most in Maryland history. 4

Maryland has four transfers listed as starters on the team’s current two-deep, two on defense and two on offense. On defense: linebackers Keandre Jones and Shaq Smith enter the fold, both coming from top programs, Jones from Ohio State and Smith fresh off a national championship at Clemson. On offense: the Terps starting quarterback Josh Jackson comes from Virginia Tech, where he set countless freshman program records in 2017 and the Terps starting tight end Tyler Mabry comes from the Buffalo where he earned 2018 First Team All-Mid American Conference honors. Jones and Smith each posted a sack and combined for seven tackles in their Maryland debut last week, while Jones tallied seven tackles, two sacks and a forced last week vs. #21 Syracuse. 4.5

LB Keandre Jones is tied for the 20th-most sacks in the country with 4.5 through four games. Jones, who has tallied a tackle for loss in all fve games this season, had a career-high two sacks vs. #21 Syracuse, one in each half, to pair with his forced fumble. Jones’s 0.90 sacks per game ranks third in the Big Ten. 10

S Darnell Savage Jr. was drafted 21st overall by the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Draft this past April, making him the 17th player in program history to be selected in the frst round. Maryland has now had frst round draft picks in back-to-back years for the frst time since 2005-06 (Shawne Merriman (2005) and Vernon Davis (2006)). WR DJ Moore was the frst wide receiver off the board in 2017 at No. 24 overall, and Savage was the frst safety off the board in 2018 at No. 21. 31.2 Maryland has been strong defensively on third down this season, holding opponents to just 24-of-77 on third down (31.2%), the 23rd best rate in the country. Opponents have been held under 40-percent on third down in all but one game this season. In addition, Maryland is just one of four teams in the country (North Carolina, FIU, Kansas State) to not allow a fourth down conversion this season. 68 The Terps held Howard to just 68 yards of offense in Week One, the lowest total by a Maryland opponent since at least 1977 and the lowest total offense mark by any team throughout the country in Week One.
