The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania Wellsboro, PA August 31 (Sat) – September 1 (Sun), 2019 2 Day Tour The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania Wellsboro, PA August 31 (Sat) – September 1 (Sun), 2019 2 Day Tour Day 1 Saturday (L) 6:00am Depart Phillipsburg, NJ (Phillipsburg Mall/Rear) 6:30am Depart Bethlehem, PA (L.V.I.P) 6:50am Depart Allentown, PA (Green Hills Commerce Center) Arrive Wellsboro, PA Leonard Harrison State Park Visitor’s Center On the east rim of the canyon, the 585-acre Leonard Harrison State Park has the most famous scenic views of the canyon. The "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania" begins just south of Ansonia, along US 6 and continues south for about 47 miles. At its deepest point, Pine Creek Gorge is 1,450 feet deep and nearly one mile wide. At Leonard Harrison State Park, the depth of the canyon is about 800 feet. This area received national acclaim in 1968 when a 12-mile section of Pine Creek Gorge was designated as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service. Lunch included at Old Antler’s Restaurant Trolley Tour of Wellsboro with stop at Highland Chocolate Tour Historic Wellsboro by Trolley. The tour also includes a stop at Highland Chocolate located on historic Route 6. Highland Chocolates is a non-profit chocolate factory and retail store that provides vocational training and employment for adults with disabilities. Famous for its pretzel bark, Highland Chocolates also offers hundreds of different molded chocolates, sweet snack mixes, fresh fudge and handcrafted chocolate gifts. Train Ride on Tioga Central Railroad See Canyon Country in comfort and style! The Tioga Central Railroad operates excursion and charter trains on a 34-mile railroad extending north from Wellsboro to a location about three miles south of Corning, New York. The train is vintage mainline railroading 1940's and 50's. All cars are air-conditioned except the open-air observation car. Route scenery is spectacular with abundant wildlife along the trip to Lake Hammond.     CCC Worker Statues To honor and commemorate the hard work and accomplishments of the Civilian Conservation Corps, established on March 31, 1933, by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a CCC Worker Statue was created to be placed across the nation, primarily in sites where they worked. Most of these sites are in national or state parks. The ones listed below have been funded primarily by chapters of the existing National Association of the Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni. Others have been funded by individual members or their family members as a memorial to that individual. Some states are fortunate to have more than one of the statues, but as of May 2013 there were 12 states, and the District of Columbia, that did not have a CCC Worker Statue honoring the men who worked in their state. Forest Restoration Comes to the Aid of Wildlife Replanting our National Forests There are plenty of reasons to plant trees, and improving wildlife habitat is an urgent and important one. With contributions from members of the Arbor Day Foundation and help from our partner organizations, forests nationwide are being restored following wildfires, windstorms and other destructive forces of nature and humans. Many wildlife species benefit from these critical reforestation projects with homes, food and protective cover. For example, only five percent of the historical habitat of brook trout remains.

    Start your journey fresh after spending the night in Coudersport at the Laurelwood PA Wilds East Loop Inn on Rt. 6. Take Rt. 6 east to Rt. 872 south towards Austin. In approximately 12 miles, you will pass the impressive Austin Dam, site of a flood that devastated the town in 1911. Turn into the park and explore the interpretive area. Continue south Ice Cold, Dam Neat, Canyon Country to Sinnemahoning State Park and stop at the Visitor Center and maybe even catch a glimpse of some Pennsylvania Elk. Make a left onto Rt. 120, you are now following the Bucktail Scenic Byway passing through Renovo and then Lock Haven. Take the exit for Rt 220 in Lock Haven towards Jersey Shore. Take the exit for Rt 44 north. Merge onto Rt. 414 east to travel through the Pine Creek Gorge. Continue following Rt. 414 through Morris towards Liberty. Take the Rt. 15 North exit Just before Lib- erty to travel the open highway to Mansfield. Exit at the Canoe Camp Exit onto Bus. Rt. 15 South. Be sure to stop at Eisenhauer’s Harley-Davidson. Continue on Bus. Rt. 15 a short while and make a right onto Rt. 660 West. Make the left onto Rt. 6 West towards Wellsboro, where you’ll find gas-lit boulevards, shops, dining and lodging. Don’t miss a great chocolate fix and tour at Highland Chocolates. Make a left onto Rt. 660 at the light to cruise down the famous gas-lit boulevard before continuing out on Rt. 660 and follow signs leading to Leonard Harrison State Park, East Rim of the PA Grand Canyon.

The wagons, with shock absorbers, rubber tires and seat cushions, offer a comfortable and unique way of enjoying this natural wonder.
