2 HEAD-ROYCE SCHOOL The mission of Head‑Royce School is to inspire in our students a lifelong love of learning and pursuit of academic excellence, to promote understanding of and respect for diversity that makes our society strong and to encourage active and responsible global citizenship.

Founded in 1887, Head‑Royce is an independent, nondenominational, coeducational, college-preparatory K–12 school, which offers a challenging educational program to educate the whole child. The school nurtures the development of each individual student through a program that seeks:

• to develop intellectual abilities such as scholarship and disciplined, critical thinking;

• to foster in each student respect, integrity, ethical behavior, compassion and a sense of humor;

• to promote responsibility and leadership, an appreciation of individual and cultural differences and a respect for the opinions of others;

• to nurture aesthetic abilities such as creativity, imagination, musical and visual talent; and

• to encourage joyful, healthy living; a love of nature; and physical fitness.

All members of the Head‑Royce community strive to create an educational environment that reflects the school’s core values of academic excellence, diversity and citizenship, and one in which each student can thrive. We believe that a program based on these core values will prepare our students to be effective global citizens as they face and embrace the challenges and the opportunities of the future.

40 HEAD-ROYCE SCHOOL Senior Class Gift This past year, the Senior Class Gift committee, comprised of 13 dedicated seniors, led their fellow classmates in a fundraising campaign to raise money for a meaningful class legacy gift. When asked the question “What makes Head-Royce special?”, the committee unanimously agreed that the teachers made their Head-Royce experience unique and special. The students were strongly motivated by the fact that since the faculty had enriched their lives, they wanted to reciprocate and enrich their teachers’ lives by growing the Professional Development Fund. At the conclusion of their fundraising efforts, the Seniors hosted a “Thankquet” luncheon for the US faculty to further express their gratitude, and presented the school with a check for $1,586.21 for the endowed Faculty Professional Development Fund.
