For more information visit: www.iflyglacier.com Locale Just under an hour southeast from the ranch is Missoula, Montana located in the west-central portion of Montana. Missoula's population was 64,081; making Missoula, Montana the second largest city in Montana. The 2009 census estimate put the population of Missoula County at 108,623. Missoula is the second largest media market in the state. Local news sources include the Missoulian and the Missoula Independent. Missoula was recently ranked number 10 in CNN Money's list of the best places to launch small businesses. It is also known for being one of the most politically liberal cities in the state. Missoula is the home of the University of Montana, and the birthplace of Jeannette Rankin (1880–1973), the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress. Missoula is the Principal city of the Missoula Metropolitan area. Missoula is also home to 2 semi-pro teams that include the Missoula Osprey, and the Missoula Phoenix. Missoula also has a thriving Downtown district that has been the host to numerous annual events. Missoula's nickname is the Garden City for its vast majority of trees and mountains. Missoula is located at an altitude of 3,209 feet. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 23.9 square miles, of which 23.8 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles (0.46%) is water. Missoula is located in a deep valley in the western part of the state, near where the Clark Fork River is joined by the Bitterroot and Blackfoot Rivers. Polson lies in a natural amphitheater at the south end of Flathead Lake in Northwest Montana located on the Flathead Indian Reservation. This charming lakeshore community is the trading center for one of most fertile farming areas in Montana. This prime cherry growing region is home to dozens of orchards, which Polson celebrates with an annual Cherry Festival. The broad, sweeping Mission Valley south of Polson is bordered by the rugged, snow-capped Mission Mountains. The Flathead River that flows through Polson features whitewater rafting and Kerr Dam. Just south of Ronan, visitors can see large herds of bison, elk, deer, antelope and barn sheep at the National Bison Range at Moiese. Bird watchers will enjoy the Ninepipes and Pablo Wildlife Refuges. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western part of the contiguous United States. With a surface area of about 191.5 sq miles, it is slightly larger than that of Lake Tahoe. Flathead Lake is 27.3 miles long and up to 15.5 miles wide. Its known maximum depth is 370.7 feet, making it deeper than the average depths of the Yellow Sea and the Persian Gulf. The lake was raised 10 ft by Kerr Dam. It is one of the cleanest in the populated world for its size and type. Flathead Lake is 30 miles southwest of Glacier National Park and is flanked by two scenic highways, which wind along its curving shoreline. On the west side is U.S. Route 93, and on the east, is Route 35. The lake is bordered on its eastern shore by the Mission Mountains and on the west by the Salish Mountains. The Flathead valley was formed by the glacial damming of the Flathead River and sustains a remarkably mild climate for a region located this far north and inland; the Pacific Ocean is almost 400 miles to the west. The mild climate allows for cherry orchards on the east shore and vineyards for wine production on the west shore. There are also apple, pear and plum orchards around the lake as well as vegetable, hay, honey, nursery tree, Christmas tree, sod/turf and wheat production bordering or near the lake. The ranch is just two miles from The National Bison Range and several wildlife preserves. St. Ignatius is a town in Lake County, Montana. The town is located on the Flathead Indian Reservation. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.5 square miles. As of the census of 2000, there were 788 people, 307 households, and 194 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,509.1 people per square mile. There were 328 housing units at an average density of 628.1/sq mi. The racial makeup of the town was 52.54% White, 44.67% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 2.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.19% of the population. In the town the population was spread out with 32.1% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 84.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.8 males. The median income for a household in the town was $25,682, and the median income for a family was $34,250. Males had a median income of $30,804 versus $24,844 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,336. About 15.5% of families and 19.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.2% of those under age 18 and 17.6% of that age 65 or over. Lake County Located in northwestern Montana, Lake County is Montana's ninth most populous with 26,904 residents, according to the 2001 estimates produced by the U.S. Census Bureau. Polson, the county seat, is the state's 18th largest city with a population of 4,041, according to the 2000 Census. According to the Montana Almanac, by authors Andrea Merrill and Judy Jacobson, the county was established in 1923 and was one of the last counties to be formed in Montana. The authors add Flathead Lake was the inspiration for Lake County’s name and Polson was named for Mission Valley stockman David Polson. Lake County is home to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation. The Flathead Reservation was established by the Hellgate Treaty of 1855. In 1845, Father Pierre Jean DeSmet arrived and helped establish the first permanent mission at St. Ignatius in 1854. According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, median income for Lake County households in 2000 was $26,169. The county is 1,653.8 square miles in area; 1,493.8 square miles in land area and 159.9 in inland water area. County residents experience the four distinct seasons. General Description of the Property This purebred cattle and horse ranch is located in the beautiful Mission Valley of Western Montana. At an elevation of 3000 ft. it enjoys very mild winters and awesome summers. Just five miles to the east, the Mission Mountain Range climbs 7000 ft. from the valley floor to an alpine elevation of 10,000 feet with breathtaking views. At the Ranch the elevation is 2775 feet. The main 80 acres has a stable with a 2,000 sq. ft., 2 bedroom, 2 bath, and timber frame living quarters built in 2003 with an additional cowboy apartment overlooking the calving corral which enables continuous monitoring. There is a 16' x 20' dog kennel with three huge chain link pens. Also built in 2003, is a 36' x 120' 4,320 sq. ft. 2 story stable with saddle room and 14 large box stalls with approximately 3500 sq. ft. upstairs currently used for storage.
