Last month the Book Sleuths and Library Director LaVoyce Ewing collaborated in a joint venture which resulted in providing books to the Women’s Sanctuary in Harrison and enabling the purchase of an equal number of large print books to enhance that collection at a 30% discount. The Thorndike Press, the world’s leading publisher of large print books, sponsors a program which lets public libraries donate withdrawn books to local community organizations such as the Sanctuary, retirement centers, jails and senior centers. A copy of the title page, the name of the organization and the number of books donated is all that is required to accompany the order as proof.

A variety of books was selected from those donated to the Friends of the Library for the Fall Sale including inspirational, fiction, health and exercise and children's books, as well as a coffee-table book of scenic America. George Cline delivered our selections to the Sanctuary in this win-win situation for the community and the Boone County Library by making books accessible to a greater number of people.
