President’s Message Welcome to the 2019 Standard Schnauzer Club of Canada National Specialty and the Western Division Regional Specialty weekend. Thank you to our judges Marion Kidd and Anthony Kelly for judging at our shows. Thank you to our sweepstakes judges Andrew Kidd and Karyn Cowdrey for accepting these assignments. Thank you to our show chairperson Heather Pedersen and the committee members for all the time spent to ensure we have these events that allow us to showcase our beautiful breed. Karon Niggli SSCC President Standard Schnauzer Club of Canada National Specialty Saturday, Sept 28th, 2019 CONFORMATION JUDGE All Regular and Non-Regular Classes Marion Kidd 1618 Germantown Rd, Red Banks 5502 South Australia , Bobtails. He introduced to Ireland Bernese Mountain Dogs SWEEPSTAKES JUDGE Juvenile & Veteran Andrew Kidd 1618 Germantown Rd, Red Banks 5502 South Australia Andrew and Marion Kidd are active members of South Australia's dog community participating in conformation shows and herding trials. They are currently showing Standard Schnauzers and an Affenpinscher. Andrew comes from a dog showing family, he has been showing since he was given his first show dog, a Papillon, in 1972. Marion started showing when she was nine with Samoyeds and later a Beagle before also getting her first show Papillon while still a teenager. It was through the Papillons that Andrew and Marion met and eventually married. Although well known for the Papillons, especially their Phalenes (drop-eared Papillons) in the 1980s and through the 1990s Andrew and Marion are best known for their world-renowned Schnauzer kennel. They are particularly proud of their exports including the Standard Schnauzers Am Ch Remporter Star At Always (Stellar - #9 SS in the USA in 1999 SSCA breed pointscore), Am Ch Remporter A Starfyr Fox (Tristan), Am Ch Remporter Starman CGC RN (Cadence) and NZ, Am and Can Ch Remporter Amstar OutfoxU (Roxy). Roxy's daughter Can and Am Ch Wattsons Remporter Annastasia was winner's bitch at the 2004 American National Specialty. Cadence has graced many an Avonside and Browntrout published calendar. Marion and Andrew have also shown 4 Giant Schnauzers as well as having the first Giant in Australia with a Herding Test title. Over the last 30 years they have also bred Tibetan Spaniels and Miniature Schnauzers. Along the way they have owned a Keeshond, a Maltese, a Kerry Blue Terrier, an Italian Greyhound, two Bedlington Terriers and three Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers. Both Andrew and Marion have had many articles on the Standard Schnauzer published and have contributed to several Schnauzer books by other authors. Booster in the Mt. Cheam Canine Association Show The Standard Schnauzer Club of Canada - National - will give a prize to the HQS Standard Schnauzer in Rally Trial #1 and Obedience Trial #3 on Saturday. The Standard Schnauzer Club of Canada - Regional - will give a prize to the HQS Standard Schnauzer in Obedience Trial #1 on Friday and Rally Trial #2 on Sunday.     Page 1 of 3 Official Standard of the Miniature Schnauzer General Appearance: The Miniature Schnauzer is a robust, active dog of terrier type, resembling his larger cousin, the Standard Schnauzer, in general appearance, and of an alert, active disposition. Faults - Type - Toyishness, ranginess or coarseness. Size, Proportion, Substance: Size - From 12 to 14 inches. He is sturdily built, nearly square in proportion of body length to height with plenty of bone, and without any suggestion of toyishness. Disqualifications - Dogs or bitches under 12 inches or over 14 inches. Head: Eyes - Small, dark brown and deep-set. They are oval in appearance and keen in expression. Faults - Eyes light and/or large and prominent in appearance. Ears - When cropped, the ears are identical in shape and length, with pointed tips. They are in balance with the head and not exaggerated in length. They are set high on the skull and carried perpendicularly at the inner edges, with as little bell as possible along the outer edges. When uncropped, the ears are small and V-shaped, folding close to the skull. Head - strong and rectangular, its width diminishing slightly from ears to eyes, and again to the tip of the nose. The forehead is unwrinkled. The topskull is flat and fairly long. The foreface is parallel to the topskull, with a slight stop, and it is at least as long as the topskull. The muzzle is strong in proportion to the skull; it ends in a moderately blunt manner, with thick whiskers which accentuate the rectangular shape of the head. Faults - Head coarse and cheeky.

Life Span: 12 to 15 years Color: Coat colors come in solid black and salt and pepper. Coat: The double coat has a wiry, dense hard, outer coat with a soft undercoat. The hair stands slightly up off the back, with coarser, longer, bushy whiskers, beard and eyebrows. Grooming: The wiry coat is reasonably easy to look after, but the undercoat is dense and it will become matted unless it is combed or brushed weekly with a short wire brush. Clip out knots and brush first with the grain, then against the grain to lift the coat. The animal should be clipped all over to an even length at least four times a year and ear care continually is important. A person can easily learn how to do it themselves. Pet dogs are generally clipped, and show dogs are usually hand-stripped, which is the process of hand plucking the outer guard hairs either with your fingers or a stripping knife. Trim around the eyes and ears with a blunt-nosed scissor and clean the whiskers after meals. They have no doggie odor and shed little to no hair.
