DANCER LAST NAME: FIRST NAME: Ballet Nebraska II Dancer Guidelines Ballet Nebraska II (BN II) serves as a training ground for a select group of highly motivated pre- professional dance students. Members are chosen by audition each season and participate in weekly class and rehearsals. BN II dancers gain valuable exposure to professional ballet company life, with opportunities to study with artistic staff, learn Company repertoire, and improve technique and artistry. Dancing with BN II is a privilege and members learn how professional dancers conduct themselves in their line of work. The following guidelines outline the expectations for BN II dancers. Classes and Rehearsals • Dancers are required to participate in regular ballet technique classes. Each member must be enrolled in 3 or more ballet classes per week. Dancers must turn in a copy of their dance class schedule to Ballet Nebraska at the beginning of the season for approval. • Weekly Company class (Saturdays 11:00-12:30) is required. This provides an excellent opportunity to study alongside the professionals, improve technique, and prepare for the rehearsal day. Company class counts toward the weekly class requirement. • Rehearsals are typically scheduled on Fridays between 4:00-6:30 and Saturdays between 1:00- 7:00, depending upon the rehearsal period. Dancers must be available during these times. • Please be on time, in the studio and ready to work at the designated class and rehearsal times. • All dancers are expected to participate in the entire class and rehearsal at the best of their abilities. If an injury or illness may prevent you from doing so, inform the teacher conducting rehearsal. • Please be courteous and respectful to any teacher, Company staff, and fellow dancers. • Cell phones, computers, handheld games, and all other electronic devices are not permitted inside the studio at any time. Please turn them off and only use them in the common areas during breaks or before/after rehearsals. • Dancers must be inside the room (not in the hallway) during all rehearsals, notes, and any other related activities. • It is polite and professional to stand and demonstrate a note or correction (when applicable). • Please focus your energy in the studio and refrain from excessive/distracting talking during class, rehearsal, and notes. • We are pleased to offer performance opportunities for dancers where appropriate. However, participation in BN II does not guarantee casting in Company productions. • Dancers are invited to participate in Company classes onstage during production weeks. Absences • Attendance is mandatory. One excused absence is allowed during each rehearsal period and must be pre-approved. More than one absence may be cause for removal from the current rehearsal period’s program. • Absence requests must be made to the Ballet Master via email at least 2 weeks in advance. • Absences during production weeks are not permitted for any reason. • In the event of an emergency which may prevent you from attending rehearsal or arriving on time, please contact the Ballet Master as soon as possible. Tuition • Tuition is $400 per semester which includes BN II rehearsals and a Company Class. Please pay tuition online at http://balletnebraska.org/paytuition before the first meeting date of each semester. • Any costume fees for dancers cast in a production are an additional fee. Information/Contacts • For questions and all other correspondence, please contact the Ballet Master. • Please check email and text messages often for communications from the Company. Etiquette/Behavior • Motion41 Dance donates studio space for Company classes and rehearsals. Please dispose of trash properly and be respectful of the surroundings. • Ballet Nebraska highly values a positive attitude and strong work ethic. Be courteous and respectful of others, including teachers and fellow dancers. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and may be cause for removal from the program. • Always be a positive role model and an ambassador for Ballet Nebraska.
