In addition, they may be printed in the Funeral Mass program. If a family feels strongly that the Words of Remembrance should be given in Church, the following guidelines apply:

• Th e person giving the Words of Remembrance must be an active, practicing Roman Catholic who participates in the life of their parish. • Th e person must be emotionally able to speak in Church at the Funeral. • Th ey must meet with Msgr. McCann before they begin to write in order to discuss what the Church’s Funeral Ritual means by Words of Remembrance. It is not a biography or a listing of the deceased’s worldly accomplishments, but rather how they lived out their Catholic Faith in the course of their life and inspired others by their faith. • Th e text for the Words of Remembrance should be a maximum of one page in length and take at most three or four minutes to read. It is to be read from the cantor stand at the beginning of the Funeral Mass.

Th e Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity | June 15, 2014 A Statement from Timothy Cardinal Dolan and the Bishops of New York State

Calling on Governor Cuomo and Leaders in Albany: Don’t Let Us Down

More than 200 Catholic schools have closed in the last Th ird Time 15 years throughout New York State, as families and William L. Parsons and Janis Kelly parishes, who strongly believe in the value of Catholic St. Mary’s, St. Mary’s, education, struggle to keep up with increasing costs. Texas Manhasset Many of our public schools also desperately need help. Th ird Time Brendan Kiagas and Alicia Gentile To address these needs, the NYS Catholic Bishops St. Patrick’s, Holy Name of Jesus, joined a broad coalition of faith groups, community Huntington Brooklyn organizations and labor unions backing legislation called the Education Investment Tax Credit. Second Time Th e measure would encourage increased charitable Eric Chan and Anne Marie Vignola donations to generate more private scholarships as well St. Mary’s, as additional resources to public schools. It also helps all Manhasset teachers provide needed materials and supplies for every classroom in New York.

Th e vast majority of legislators support the bill. Why? It’s because the legislation will help all children, regardless of where they go to school. It’s a win-win for all families! Although Governor Cuomo assured us he would fi ght to SCHEDULE include the proposal in the state budget, in the end, we were left out. June 21st - June 22nd As the legislative session ends in Albany this coming Saturday, June 21st week, we pray that Governor Cuomo won’t let us 8:00 AM A. Livigni, W. Simone down. We all speak to ourselves. Th is monologue of thought has an incredibly powerful impact on our lives. Speak to yourself negatively often enough and you will become a negative person. Your energy will become negative and you will repel good things and people. Speak to yourself positively and the world will become a warm and wonderful place full of wonderful people and opportunities. (from Message from Matthew for June 2014)
