Proceedings – Kharif 2014 For Official Use Only UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES, DHARWAD COMBINED ZONAL RESEARCH AND EXTENSION ADVISORY COUNCIL AND ZONAL RESEARCH AND EXTENSION FORMULATION COMMITTEE MEETING PROCEEDINGS – KHARIF 2014 NORTHERN DRY ZONE, NORTHERN TRANSITION ZONE, HILL ZONE AND COASTAL ZONE [ZONE – 3, 8, 9 and 10] Date : 18-20 May, 2015 Venue : New Auditorium, UAS, Dharwad Directorate of Research, UAS, Dharwad 1 PREFACE The Kharif combined Workshop of the Zonal Research and Extension Advisory and Zonal Research Council and Extension Formulation Committee for Northern transition Zone , Northern dry zone, Hiill zone and Coastal zone (Zone-3,8, 9 & 10) was held for four days from 18-21 May, 2015 at New Auditorium, UAS, Dharwad. The Scientists from University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, Officers from the Department of Agriculture and selected progressive farmers participated in the meeting. A thorough discussion took place on the research results generated during the previous year and also on the technical programme to be implemented during 2015-16. Further, based on the results of research carried out for more than two to three years, farm trials were formulated and proposed for conducting in farmers field by Agricultural Extension Education Cells, Krishi Vignana Kendras and State Department of Agriculture. All the scientists of the University and Extension Officers of the Department are requested to implement the programme as chalked out in the workshop in the ensuing year. Khadi, Director of Research, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad welcomed Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Director of Extension, all Deans, Associate Directors of Research, Associate Directors of Extension, Heads of Departments, Heads of KVK’s, JDA’s of different districts, progressive farmers and all scientists to the workshop. Director of Research presented overview of Research Programme carried out during kharif 2014-15. He briefed about normal and actual rainfall received in seven districts under the University jurisdiction and also total cultivable land under UAS, Dharwad. He pointed out about drastic change in total number of rainy days despite the normal rainfall. He explained about the per cent contribution of cropped area under UAS, Dharwad jurisdiction to the State under different crops. Further, he indicated that maize is an important crop under cereals and greengram in pulses, soybean in oilseeds and sugarcane in commercial crops and he prompted the scientists to consider these crops on priority for research. Among the various crops, sugarcane, cotton and maize were the major contributors to state GDP. He summarized the financial allocation along with farm receipts realized. He narrated about total new ad-hoc projects approved; testing trials conducted and also staff research projects allotted to the different scientists. He presented the report of monitoring team visit during kharif 2014-15 of various Departments including social science and seed production programmes. Further, he briefed about workshops, symposia organized by the Directorate. He discussed about the insect pest scenario and important diseases
