Siles. Sci. Natur., 66: 7-34, 2017. Abstract: The horse fly fauna of the NE parts of the Hercynicum (36 species of 8 genera, including one ssp. and one recognized form) is relatively diverse, including 65.5 % of the Tabanid species recorded from the Czech Republic. All literature records are referred to, and 136 new localities added. The most interesting finds during our faunistic survey were the nationally scarce Silvius alpinus (Scopoli, 1763), Hybomitra arpadi (Szilády, 1923), H. kaurii Chvála & Lyneborg, 1970 and H. nitidifrons confiformis Chvála & Moucha, 1971; in spite of literature records H. lurida (Fallén, 1817) was not re-found. Atylotus plebejus (Fallén, 1817) and Chrysops rufipes Meigen, 1830 are classified as endangered species in the Czech Republic, and Glaucops hirsutus (Villers, 1789) as vulnerable. Introduction The horse flies are insects of considerable economic importance, with a body size 6-27 mm in Europe (Chvála 1980). Introduction The mid and lower course of the river Drava (305 km) it is located between Hungarian and Croatian state borders and form great valleys with large floodplains. However, the beginning of the 19 century large parts of the wetlands in the Drava valley have been exclud - ed from the floods by dykes except the parts of the river along the Somogy county. The anthropogenic impact has changed both the water regime of the river and the groundwater flow. -

Since 2012, the disease has spread rapidly and Insect vectors widely throughout the Middle Eastern and Balkan regions, southern Caucasus and parts of the Russian Ticks vectors Federation. Before vaccination campaigns took their full effect, the disease continued spreading from region to Pathogen transmission region, mainly showing seasonal patterns despite implementing control and eradication measures. The disease is capable of appearing several hundred kilometers away from initial (focal) outbreak sites within a short time period. These incursions have triggered a long-awaited renewed scientific interest in LSD resulting in the in- itiation of novel research into broad aspects of the disease, including epidemiology, modes of transmission and associated risk factors. Long-distance dispersal of LSDV seems to occur via the movement of infected animals, but distinct seasonal patterns indicate that arthropod-borne transmission is most likely responsible for the swift and aggressive short-distance spread of the disease. -

A total of 2705 samples including 7 genera and 14 species were collected. Eight most abundant species were used in the analysis while Tabanus lunatus was ranked first with a rate of 50.55%. As a result of the analysis, eight species (T. lunatus, T. regularis, T. spodopterus, T. miki, T. bromius, T. bifarius, Silvius alpinus, Haematopoda subcylindrica) preferred the foot of hosts with a rate of 66.93%, while the back areas were used with a rate of 4.69%. Kruskall-Wallis test analysis showed that horse flies do not randomize their hosts and feeding sides on the hosts. Key words: Tabanidae, horse flies, host preference, feeding sides, Diptera, Insecta. INTRODUCTION Species of the Tabanidae family vary regarding nutritional requirements and host preferences (Jeffrey and Davies, 1986). During the summer months, mature females are abundant in hot and sunny regions; they feed by sucking blood from domestic and wild animals such as cattle, camel, horse, donkey, hinny, pig, reptile and rodent. In previous studies, the feeding sides of horse flies on different rodents, reptiles and mammals were studied (Krcmar, 2006; Gouteux and Noireu, 1986). Krcmar (2006), reported that the feeding site preferences of horse fly species, Tabanus bromius, T. tergestinus, and Philiompyia graeca on the human body were statistically important. -

Kock5 Received: 9 June 2020 /Accepted: 8 February 2021 # The Author(s) 2021 Abstract This study describes the registration of the first cases of lumpy skin disease in July 2016 in the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the rural district of Makash, Kurmangazinsky district of Atyrau region, 459 cattle fell ill and 34 died (morbidity 12.9% and mortality 0.96%). To determine the cause of the disease, samples were taken from sick and dead animals, as well as from insects and ticks. LSDV DNA was detected by PCR in all samples from dead animals and ticks (Dermacentor marginatus and Hyalomma asiaticum), in 14.29% of samples from horseflies (Tabanus bromius), and in one of the samples from two Stomoxys calcitrans flies. The reproductive LSD virus was isolated from organs of dead cattle and insects in the culture of LT and MDBK cells. The virus accumulated in cell cultures of LT and MDBK at the level of the third passage with titers in the range of 5.5–5.75 log 10 TCID50/cm3. Sequencing of the GPCR gene allowed us to identify this virus as a lumpy skin disease virus. Keywords Lumpy skin disease . -
